Dean rally in Dallas July 13
Dr. Dean is coming back to Texas in July!
7pm Sunday July 13th
Dallas City Hall Plaza
1500 Marilla Dr.
Downtown Dallas

--------------------------
Also for people living in Austin or near Austin, the campaign is getting a bus together to travel to Dallas on the 13th. Here is the
info for that:

Central Texas Dean Volunteers,
We're putting something special together to go see Dean in Dallas...
Austin Does Dallas... by Bus !! Going to see Dean in Dallas!!
Howard Dean Public Rally on Sunday at 7 pm in Dallas
Bus leaves at 2:30 p.m. Sign up due by Friday noon.
OK. So we saw Dean in Austin and were inspired. Or maybe you missed him and want to have the experience of hearing him in person.

We have to help the guys up north, so we're going to the Rally in Dallas. We've tentatively reserved a bus. It costs $600 so if we charge $15 a person, 40 people can go comfortably. We need to know that we have 40 by 12:30 pm Friday. Otherwise, it's carpools and sleepy drivers coming home! Sign on here if you want to go with us. List each person separately if more than one is going from a family! We'll email you back on Friday if we made the goal of 40+

The office location is Glen Maxey's office at 512 E Riverside Ste 203. The office building is next to Joe's Crabshack (old Landry's and for the really old, Magic Time Machine!)
Sunday, July 13, 02:30 PM

So e-mail me back by Friday at 12:30 or else we may not get enough people to reserve a bus.

Thanks,
Glen Maxey

I wish I could go but I can't. Hope everyone near Dallas and in Dallas will take the opportunity to hear him speak.

1. I can't go
I went to the Austin rally that drew 3200 people. If Dean can remain a strong contender nationally until the time of the TX primary I think he'll win it. No other Democrat has a statewide organization here like he does.

2. For the John Kerry crowd...or those undecided...
"Join John Kerry at the National Council of La Raza's Annual Conference! Come see John Kerry at the Opening Plenary Session! Date: Sunday, July 13, 2003 Time: 10:15 am Location: Austin Convention Center Level 1, Ballroom A Austin, Texas "

I got that from the txdemocrats.org calendar.

3. I'd love to go GOPisEvil
I give every presidential a candidate who takes the time to visit Austin a listening to. So I looked up the info on this event yesterday when I found out about it.

Well unfortunately $625 registration fee is way out of my league. This raza member is not rich. Heck they don't even have a one day option. Sorry but at this rate Kerry isn't going to get many of "la raza" out to see him. What he should do is schedule a free event while he's in town so the rest of us can come hear him. Just my two cents.

4. Dean Will Also Be Making a Speech at NCLR in Austin on 7/14
Edited on Fri Jul-11-03 04:09 PM by sonias
Howard Dean - Monday July 14th at Austin Convention Center, Ballroom F, Level 4 - 7:30 AM (Dean will probably speak around 8:30 AM)

This event is part of a the La Raza Conference, and unfortunately, this means you have to register for the convention in order to hear Dean speak. Registration costs $475 ($250 for students/seniors) if done ahead of time and $600 ($400) if you do it at the conference. As the convention begins on Saturday, you would have to register TODAY in order to get that discount.

But for the rest of us who don't have hundreds of dollars to blow, this means we will not be able to hear the governor's speech :( But there's still a lot to do. Once again, we need lots of volunteers, all weekend to tell the attendees that Dean will be speaking.

On the morning of the event itself, everyone should bring their shirts, buttons, signs, and anything else you can to show your Dean support. We want Dean and the La Raza attendees to WADE through a crowd of supporters on the way to breakfast and then WADE back to their cars. We want Dean to shake hands and sign autographs all along the way. Maybe he'll even feel inspired to say a few words.

So at least come to the Convention Center on Monday, July 14th at 7:00 AM, and we will surround the building with Dean supporters. Everywhere Dean goes there must be a strong showing to demonstrate his strength and viability as a candidate. We need people there on Monday in order to show everyone else how committed we are, so please, please make an effort to come.

I know it's short notice, but this is our chance to shine. If we can put hundreds of people on the sidewalk as Dean arrives and leaves in the morning with only four days notice, we will shock everyone, and we will brighten Howard Dean's day enormously. Let's show them how organized and enthused Texas is.

Statewide Coordinator

9. "The back of the Northwind..."
Dude! I was standing two feet away from you at the Dean button/sticker table in the brown Outback hat and the "Killer D's" shirt. Small world!

I snapped a few Dean pics, including one up close and personal. As soon as we can find a film developer whose equipment isn't broken, I'll see about posting them on DU.

7. Is any other candidate doing this much in Bush territory?
Not to offend the Texas Dems...I meant Bush's home state. Are any? I honestly haven't heard of any.

8. Dean urges supporters to 'take back' country
http://www.dallasnews.com/sharedcontent/dallas/politics/national/stories/071403dnnatdean.c8b0.html
Democratic presidential candidate Howard Dean on Sunday told about 1,200 supporters in Dallas to "take back" their country, urging Americans to reject the administration's ideals on war, economics and health insurance.

"We need jobs in this country again, and you're not going to get that without balancing the budget," the former Vermont governor said.

(snip)
Dr. Dean spoke at Dallas City Hall Plaza after spending part of his day at a private Dallas residence raising $60,000. Organizers said it's his first trip to Dallas as a presidential candidate.

Not bad for his first trip to Dallas, which is the heart of conservative Texas.
