Draft: Should this be an issue yet?
From my DFW mail list:

Jason and all,
Please be sure to inform everyone that the only sponsor of the Senate
Bill is Fritz Hollings, Democrat of South Carolina, and the primary sponsors
of the House Bill are Charles Rangle (D-NY) and JIM MCDERMOTT (D-WA). I
think that it would be walking right into the Bush administration's hands to
try to put this attempt to reactivate the draft at the feet of the
republicans only to have them turn right back on us.
These bills were introduced as a sort of deterent to going into Iraq. The
Democrats who introduced them wanted the republicans to put their children
in harm's way before they led the country into war. This, of course, never
happened and these bill sit in committee and will probably never see the
light of day.(IMO)

1. They Why is the Boosh Regime Cranking up the SSS?
The Selective Service System is under orders to be ready to draft
people by the middle of next year.

The Democrats' bill may not have been intended to go anywhere, but
when the time comes, not long after his reSelection if such a
horrible thing happens, Boosh will use it to claim "bipartisan support"
for conscription. He will say it will be univesal and fair,
of course, but he knows how these things really work, and so do we.

2. Too late to deter going to Iraq
While the intentions of this bill may be noble, it will end up as just another way to get cannon fodder for the warmongers. This bill should be vigourously resisted.
