The sixty foot rule, and the 53 miles per hour rule. Learning a new job.
I'm in my third week of a new job. We build sets for theater
productions, museum exhibits, trade shows, amusement/theme parks, store interiors etc.

I'm one carpenter of 18 in this company.

The sixty foot rule refers to the distance between the audience and
the stage. Small defects are not seen by the audience. It's to far away
and they are focusing on the actors anyway.

The 53 miles per hour rule in this case means the people on the roller coaster
will travel at 53 miles per hour through your 25 foot of construction in
a fraction of a second.

We build every thing as if will be scrutinized with a magnifying glass.
As it should be. Some of these exhibits go on the road to several cities.
We build them to be robust for that reason. I'm learning a new learning curve.

It's really physically hard work. I will get in the union after sixty days.
I'll be offered benefits after 900 hours. don;t think I'll be able afford health insurance.
but in America it's the wow factor that really matters, right?

I'm double dog tired and need to get some sleep. I'll answer any replies tomorrow .

1. That sounds like a fun type of job.
I'm just a novice with art work but I've been a volunteer mom with my sons' classes to create sets & props for school plays. There were better artists than me, but my strength was creativity. And I did visuals for a JCPenney's men's department & for mall fashion shows.

The benefits after 900 hours won't include an affordable health insurance? Are you going to keep your eye out for another job?
