1. Mr yankeepants got one early in bow season
Usually by this time we have three in the freezer. He's getting dressed to go out right now. We haven't had any snow yet this year which makes it harder to hunt but stil. . .

We have one turkey in the freezer. No ducks.

Certainly isn't like other years and not from lack of trying. I'm not really concerned. He'll get a couple yet.

Good luck to you, BWBob.

Love your dog! ypants

Usually I have the freezer full by now too...been a sad year for ole Bob.

I'll fill it..there are a couple of stupid spikes I can take if it comes to it...just hate to take the spikies. They are young, dumn, and full of..well..easily distracted enthusiasm :)

3. how is your deer population down there?
ours is getting small...bucks are down. The populations are good from Portland and further south, but as you go north the herds are way down this year.

5. we are if anything a little overpopulated
several mild temp winters coupled with 2 good wet summers have led to an overpopulation in my area.

4. The season starts tomorrow. Schools are closed.
It is a state holiday or something (PA). We're vegetarian so it just means a day off of school for the kids (well, the one who is still IN school).

6. Don't hunt but have a question if you don't mind me asking?
My neighbor who does hunt said the amount of fat on these animals can indicate what kind of winter they are preparing for. Normal winter normal amount of fat. Extremely bad winter coming and there will be an abnormally amount of fat. He said the one he took in Illinois this year had a lot of fat.

Don't know if there is any truth to this or not? What experience have you had or noticed about this? It might just be all BS? Just thought I would ask though.

Thanks in advance.

Don

7.  The amount of fat depends solely on how well they fed over the summer and fall.

9. Measly 6-pointer?
I thought hunters were doing wildlife a favor by culling the sickly ones who wouldn't survive anyway?

11. I like hunting threads; I'm going to start hunting deer next year.
Last year I was thinking about it, and this year we're starting to shop around for a carbine.

Golly, what if you had got a "real" deer? My condolences go out to you.
