Ruminations of Thanksgivings Past

We were sitting around watching the football game while my MIL was in the kitchen, a veritable tornado of cooking activity. I was snuggled next to Lover Boy trying to figure-out how the silly game was played but I enjoyed watching them cheer every good play (they even compliment the team they aren't rooting for when that team does well. Weird.).

My MIL came out of the kitchen still cradling her mixing bowl after hearing the cheers for the latest touchdown and she asked, "Are they putting on a good show?"

The TV cut to the cheerleaders. LB pointed to the girls and said, "Yeah, but the stupid football game keeps interrupting."

The crack of the wooden spoon across the top of his head was plainly audible.

"You got that pretty little girl on your arm and you're going to still ogle those trashy women!"

"I like your mom."

"Yeah, well, she gives me a headache," he said rubbing his head.

His mom then lit into his dad for having raised such an ill-mannered bearer of the family name and his dad told LB to stop making his life so difficult.

"I think I have sweet potatoes in my hair."



Of course it was all in good fun for all involved but it's those little moments, so fleeting they almost whisper past us, that really say so much about how people live, love and laugh together. It still seems so bright and vivid for me. I know that sounds silly because it was such a silly little moment but it just defined so much.

Find those moments. Cherish them. Keep them forever. They will be the greatest treasures you'll ever own.
