Computer geeks here, I need a little help.
Whenever I have a .mp4 video file in a folder on my hard drive, (I use Windows Vista,) the file causes my Internet Explorer to reset over and over, even if I'm not even IN Windows Explorer.

I can view .mp4 files on a disc, but on my hard drive they cause the problem until I dump the entire folder with the .mp4 file in it.

1. Well I'm of no help
Instead of Windows Vista, I run Linux. In place of Internet Explorer I run Firefox and Chromium and Nautilus for a file manager instead of Windows Explorer. So while I can't help, I can commiserate.

Try looking here: http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&safe=off&q=+site:answers.microsoft.com+.mp4+file++causes+my+Internet+Explorer+to

2. WEll now your first mistake was addressing "Computer Geeks" for a question about Windows
:-)

I can't help you. Take the thing to goodwill for a tax credit or smash it or something to at least make you feel better.

4. Let's start at the beginning
What steps did you take that lead you to believe mp4 files are resetting your IE?
Did you mean this or should it all be IE or Windows Explorer? "Internet Explorer to reset over and over, even if I'm not even IN Windows Explorer." (technically, you can't not be in explorer - explorer.exe is always on as it is the gui of your computer. You might not be actively browsing files and folders but explorer is always on)
What version of IE are you using and do you have the latest updates?
What program do you use to view mp4 files? (and is that updated?)
Is it any mp4 file or one or more specific files?

does this happen when you try to open an mp4 or does it happen from merely browsing the folder in which the mp4 resides?

Run all windows updates?

BTW, upgrading to Windows 7 is so worth it you will be mad at yourself for not doing it sooner. given the exact same hardware, 7 runs faster and cleaner and more stably than vista in every instance that I have noticed.
