Is this comment thinly veiled racism?

I posted the this comment on Facebook: The reason I hate squirrels is they never clean up after themselves. A "friend" commented ""Especially the black ones". I found that offensive. Am I reading too much into it?

What else does this "friend" say? I am not on FB, but I gather you can read his/her profile and other things she/he has posted. Because your comment is a bit facetious, I wouldn't take it too seriously, unless said friend is consistently saying questionable stuff. And I agree, squirrels are slobs.

6. It's someone I went to grade school with

Haven't really been in contact in ages. I was walking down the street and I found a bunch of nut shells on the sidewalk and the comment I came up with struck me as being funny. Squirrels love going through our trash and throwing everything on our driveway. Such slobs.

They stare me right in the eye when they casually throw down a peanut shell or toss sunflower seed shells, from the bird feeder, onto the grass. The latter while hanging from their toes.

People, especially in the south. Saying "He's a squirrel." means the person is silly, scatterbrained and lacking in "common sense".
