3. John Paul Jones would say,...
"I have not yet begun to litigate!"

...and, rightfully so.

His contribution to Zep was every bit as important as the others.

6. Yeppers.
I saw JPJ with Them Crooked Vultures on Austin City Limits this weekend and he is still one monster of a musician. Jason Bonham yes, Geddy, no.

9. I intended to say pretty much the same thing
Don't get me wrong, I love Geddy Lee. In Rush. John Paul Jones is all the bass player I need in my Zeppelin though. And keyboardist. And triple necked mandolinist. And lap steel guitarist. And etc... The point being is that, as stated above, JPJ is a monster musician. One of the top 5 best concerts I have ever seen in my life was JPJ on a tour supporting his album "Zooma". And I have very literally seen thousands of live shows in the last 30 years.

Here's to hoping that one of the projects Jimmy Page has on tap for the near future is the release of the O2 reunion show at the benefit for Ahmet Ertegun in December of 2007. The bootlegs of it are terrific but an official Blu-Ray release would give me a woody.

11. He had that great line at the R&R Hall of Fame...
..."I'm glad my friends remembered my phone number"...after being shut out of the Page/Plant albums and tours. Plant stood there and smirked, Page acted like he didn't hear it. That's primarily the reason why I did this poll.

10. Sometimes it's just best to let it go
I'm a huge Who fan. They were fantastic in 1996 and at the Concert for New York, but they still were not the same band I saw in 1976.

Roger Daltry's solo shows have been fantastic, and I hope to see the Tommy tour he is doing, but trying to cobble together the pieces that would re-create the majic is futile.

12. I don't know if you're a Zep fan but
if you don't believe they are capable of recreating the magic, I suggest you check out that Reunion show I mentioned up there. They were brilliant with Jason on drums. Sadly it is clear that it was a one off thing for Plant - he doesn't want to be a rock star any more. He is happy doing his softer projects and I am willing (but unhappy) to let him. I figure he don't owe me nothing considering how much he has already given me.

13. Jason is recreating the magic with Black Country Communion
Joe Bonamassa (guitar, vocals), Glenn Hughes (bass, vocals), Derek Sherinian (keyboards) and Jason Bonham (drums).

Bonham was royally pissed off and disappointed when Plant vetoed the Led Zeppelin tour.

So he did the next best thing.

He joined a band that is so completely saturated in Led Zeppelin influence that it would be a crime if they weren;t so damned good.

14. Yeah BCC is pretty friggin awesome
I have been patiently waiting for them to tour anywhere within a days drive of me. Same with Them Croooked Vultures. But I pretty much love everything even remotely Zep related.

find their own voice and not try to be another LZ, because, as you know, there will never ever be another.

The band I was a roadie for was Gran Max, and, although they were talented, they tried to be too much like Rush. They put out two albums and they were done.

15. I am a Zep fan
but what I saw of Plant on Paladium, I just don't think he has the vocal chops anymore. Age gets to all of us. Even my favorite band was not the same after the loss of Keith Moon. He was a gifted drummer (not the best, I reserve that title for Buddy Rich), but his style of "lead drumming" couldn't be duplicated. Ringo's son Zach does a good job, and it's good, but the personality of Moon is missing. It's like trying to replace John Entwhistle. He played so many harmonics on the bass that if you just turned down the level a notch to protect Pete's hearing, it wasn't the same.

That's all I'm saying. I'm sure Zep would be good, but it wouldn't be the Zep of old.

19. Moony was the most unique drummer ever.
I remember some teevee show where Roger Daltrey was discussing "Won't Get Fooled Again" and pulled everything out of the mix except himself and Keith. Daltrey and Moon were doing what amounted to a complimentary dialogue/duet with Pete and the Ox filling in the scenery. Moon was one of a kind and irreplaceable.

16. It's NOT ZEPPELIN without John Paul Jones' bass, keys, and arranging
This became really clear when he separated from Plant & Page. They can still play, they just can't make the magic records anymore. And Geddy Lee is SO NOT THE BLUES.

Personally, if I had to try to fix Led Zeppelin, I'd put Larry Young on keyboards and John McVie on bass. I can't think of a single player who could sub for John Paul Jones.

I heard Fleetwood Mac is thinking about a new album and tour. I'd love to see them especially with Lindsey Buckingham.

21. Why would Zeppelin abandon its strongest member for Geddy Lee?
Not for the signing obviously, I don't think much of Plant as a blues singer but he's obviously better than Lee. Maybe if Willie Dixon could be reincarnated he could substitute.

23. It would have the potential to RULE!
Edited on Thu Sep-01-11 03:08 PM by dawg
It wouldn't be Led Zeppelin, and they shouldn't call it that. But I for one would love to hear what came out of such a collaboration.

Oh, and I would want Geddy to do backing vocals and occasional lead vocals in addition to bass and keys. His voice has mellowed over the years, not at all like the helium vocals of his youth.
