"Song from M*A*S*H* (Suicide is Painless)" was written by Johnny Mandel with lyrics by Mike Altman. Altman, the son of the film's director Robert Altman, was 14 at the time he composed them and over his lifetime has received more than $1M in royalties from it. In comparison, his father received only $70,000 for directing the film.
