Getting the end-of-summer panics.
No no no no no!

School's almost starting, which means summer is on the downswing, which means winterfall will be here in about a month and will last for a hundred years. I'm a lifelong Minnesotan, but I HATE winter. If my entire family weren't here, I would move. This year, we didn't even have seriously spring-like weather until practically June, and we've had plenty of blizzards in October. This is not enough nice weather. It's completely depressing watching everything freeze and die. Summer always seemed so much longer when I was a kid. I'm not ready. I need four more months of nice. At least. Wah!

That's all. Just had to whine. Thanks for tolerating.

1. My dear LaraMN!
I hear you!

It did seem longer when you were a kid because it was a larger percentage of your whole life...

I'm sorry.

2. Between the rainstorms I think Chicago had like 2 weeks worth of nice summer days.

Hot, hot and more hot!!! I am ready for winter. Of course, I live in North Georgia where our winters are mild compared with winters in the norhtern stattes/

4. Well, all I can do is agree and sympathize.
I live in the Metro Detroit area, and winters here in SE Michigan are long, dark, and cold, but you have it significantly worse in Minnesota. It seems like the spring and summer go so fast, and winter just drags. Part of that is the fact that there are so few opportunities for meaningful outdoor activities in the winter unless you're a sports person, which I'm not. I spend most of my free time outside in the nice times of the year, gardening and puttering in the yard, and other than shoveling snow, none of that from Thanksgiving to about late March. Not to mention the going to work in the dark, coming home in the dark thing, which is a real drag. The only time I see the sun, when it shines - which is rare here in the winter -- is on a weekend. Otherwise, I live like a mole.

5. I get that way in April.
I HATE summer - and just come to life in the cold. I mean, you get the fun holidays, big pots of stews and chili, cups of hot chocolate, curled up on the couch watching movies... my apologies - I get carried away! Sorry you're going through your 'depressing time', though.

:hi:

7. I'm in New England and I agree.
I find summer so much easier and more enjoyable. Last winter, with all the snow and cold we got here, I barely left the house for three months. It sucked.

8. August has been beautiful here in PNW.
Mostly in the 70s. But June and July were not great. I'm looking out the window and it is totally dark. Just a couple of weeks ago it was light at 9 p.m. Wah!!!!!

I've had a wild summer -- doing too much research, bearing too much stress for family members, etc. I am vowing to make the last of August and any nice weather in September count by soaking up as much as possible. Soon the rains will start.

I'm sorry for those of you who live even farther north. My grandparents homesteaded in Saskatchewan. I can't imagine living their life.
