1. If you live anywhere near SF, I have a good color TV you can have.
It's been sitting in the garage for about a year but works well.

PM me for details.

Otherwise, good luck. :hi:

2. No I live in Ottawa. Was very kind of you though. I'm still hoping the sound kicks back on.

3. does it have a headphone jack?
If so a cheap pair of computer speakers may be in your near future. Not ideal, but it works when the budget is low.

Or cheaper yet a TV from Salvation Army thrift store. Or cheaper still a pair of computer speakers from SA thrift.

6. Did you try banging on it yet?
That't the universal fix-it for TV problems.

8. Any recycling groups in Ottawa?
We have one here, affiliated with Yahoo; I had a 32" tv listed on there for weeks before someone even responded. It wasn't a flat screen, so people weren't interested. A free tv, and nobody wanted it! (a Sony that worked perfectly) I wasn't the only one in the same boat, quite a few listed with no response.

If the computer speakers don't work, give it a shot.

10. Or Craigslist.
I got one of mine free from Craigslist and I see a few listed in my city every day.

17. I don't know about Ottawa
but in my city Craigslist is nowhere near as big as it is south of the border. There are two other local websites that are used much more frequently to sell used goods; but very little in the way of free stuff.

11. Shotgun.
It won't fix the sound, but it might make you feel better.

13. Do you use a cable box?
Or any other accessory that has an audio out? If so, and you happen to have a cheap receiver nearby, you can run the audio out into that receiver in order to get sound. You might be rather surprised at how good some of older, cheaper receivers can sound. I had an old Sanyo that I had hooked up to an ancient pair of Optimus speakers, they really gave my modern-day Onkyo receiver/Wharfdale speakers a run for the money.

14. Salvation Army / Goodwill are full of color TVs - the thick ones that are no longer in style.

15. Turn on closed-captioning.
That will help with SOME programming, if you can read closed-captionease. :P

16. More and more things can be watched online now as well.
I don't have cable, yet see more sports than ever before. I know my friend watches everything from House to The Big Bang Theory online each week, so all kinds of shows are out there. I have a big ass tv that basically collects dust now. I hardly ever need it, I watch everything on my PC now.

Good luck!
