Do you like Huey Lewis and the News?

Their early work was too new wave for my tastes, but when Sport came out in '83, I think they came into their own. The whole album has a clear crisp sound, a sheen of consimate professionalism that gives the songs a big boost. He's been compared to Elvis Costello, but I think Huey has a much more bitter, cynical sense of humor.

In '87, Huey released Fore, their most accomplished album. I think their undisputed masterpiece is "Hip To Be Square", a song so catchy, most people don't listen to the lyrics. But they should, because it's not just about the pleasures of conformity, and the importance of trends, it's a personal statement about the band itself.

I agree with you; I think they really blossomed with Fore! and with Sports. They've been called the greatest band (in terms of the level of talent of each player and how well they play together), and I tend to agree. (I realize some people may be outraged by this; just think about the parenthetical statement.)

and Costello has a depth that far exceeds anything Lewis might attempt. but hey, that's my opinion and you what they say about opinions and how they are like assholes, everyone has got one.

However, I have heard that Huey is a tremendous bloues guitarist and has a club in SF where a night a two a wek he takes stage and plays the blues. I can respect that. Cash in and then do what you love with low stress.

Huey Lewis is a better actor than musician--though his big scene in _Short Cuts_ was (alas) prosthetically enhanced.

22. I disliked them after they made a cutting remark about Live Aid

They weren't ready to commit in the early stages of the fundraiser organization and made a snippy remark. Instead of just saying no, they made some remark about where the money would go or something and got WHALED upon by Bob Geldof. At that point, when it became the event it did, they looked like dick heads, which they were. So no. Not in a long, long time have I liked them.

my first musical love was Huey. My mom would play this tape on her way to work and whenever "Heart of Rock and Roll" came on, I would scream (at the appropriate time of course). They really are a good band

American Psycho...those parts in the book had me on the floor laughing...best way to break up the darkness that made up a great deal of that book.

are kinda catchy , but tend to be over played .

When songs are played too much , I tend to get sick
of them .

Honestly I have nothing against Huey just pop radio .
