How many of you watch Law and Order: Criminal Intent?
I was watching this episode about a man who was murdered whose mother was sucked into this Santaria thing. It was pretty strange. Though I respect this show for going beyond the formula of Law and Order. I also like Vincent D'Onofrio's style. Some people may debate this with me but he has made his character interesting.

1. Not Criminal Intent
but I watch SVU and the original regularly. I've watched Criminal Intent a few times though and it is interesting, I'll agree with that!

Some of the court scenes get so unrealistic that it's almost cheesy, but I enjoy all those shows just the same!

:hi:

2. D'onofrio's an idiot and a bad actor
Talking to friends who have worked on the show as extras, Vince is way too consumed with his character and will stay in character even during breaks and some "marking" rehearsals. This is unheard of in TV, though it's even rare in film. Other actors refuse to work with him, most notably Andrew McCarthey who quit/got fired after he nearly got into a fight with D'onofrio because he wouldn't stop badgering him after the shots were completed. A friend of mine who works at a NYC casting agency says that many of their "important" actors who get cast in guest roles refuse to work on L&O: CI, but will happily take jobs on the other two incarnations.

Vince also can't figure anything out and has to have everything explained for him. From what I hear he can't find his trailer, the craft services table, constantly loses scripts etc...

3. ADD?
I enjoy D'Onofrio on the show very much. Lots of actors have learning disabilities of one kind or another. The theatre was a way to mask their differences.

ADD people have a state called hyperfocus. Very focused and intense. But if the concentration is broken, it's hell on wheels to get it back. That may be why he doesn't break character on set.

4. Quite possible
He might be afflicted with ADD, but it still doesn't help his reputation. Also many people won't work with Daniel Day Lewis for similar reasons, so Vince isn't alone.

Though, TV is one different animal and it has it's own rules. Theatre and Film are fine for staying in character, but with TV that rarely ever happens. The sheer lighting-style pace and number of shots and notes strongly work against "method" acting and only hinder the process and anger others. Hence the stigma that's being attached to CI.

5. D'Onofrio doesn't even come close
to Andre Braugher's portrayal of Frank Pembelton. Now that was a TV cop!

7. But D'Onofrio was great in the Homicide episode
where he is pushed under a subway train by a crazy man and the whole episode is him dying. Pembleton and Bayliss were magical, as always, in that episode, but D'Onofrio was incredible.

I think that episode won a Peabody.

6. I watch it.
It's enjoyable, sometimes. Not always. D'Onofrio's style IS interesting, but...it sometimes plays too close to the USA series "Monk" to be really comfortable. Still, it's not bad.

Not as bad as "JAG" or "NCIS".

Now those are just awful.
