I'm a little leery of it, since IE8 works (generally) now on my XP operating system.

Any GOOD advice will be appreciated. That, ahem, rules out the gratuitous and non-helpful "Microsoft sucks" comments (thank you, Captain Obvious!).

Thanks,

Bake

2. NO!!
It renders certain sites very poorly - for example Google mail is completely out of wack

I've noticed in some other sites certain javascript controls just don't work

It functions very poorly with some sites - enough I regret installing it

5. You can't-- it only works on Win 7, and...
you probably can't run Win 7 properly on an older XP machine. I ran a Microsoft thingy to see if my XP machine would run it, and it said it would but my graphics card isn't good enough for some stuff (which means it would hardly run at all).

IE 8 isn't nearly as bad as a lot of people make it out to be and you can do fine using it until you get a new computer, but if you want to experiment, try Chrome, Opera or Firefox. Personally, I think Firefox is fast becoming a bloated piece of crap and mainly use Opera but I'm using Chrome more and more.
