Not having joined such a group, but having some knowledge of the spiritual.
Basically there is a 'force' both good and bad.
And you have to fight it blind, since it is outside of what is visible.
Why Luke in Starwars first lesson was to fight blind.
Also the concept of Myst, or even fog of war, and why the fog concept is used so often, both denoting attempts at confusion in battles, and limited input output while engaging. You have to carry what you need inside, weather it be whatever reserves of love, integrity, honorability, and better ideas, whatever you might have. The idea of having it inside, not going to the store, is what I think of as having the oil.
The thing about Masons, is they think many different things. But many have not even postulated on why an initiate is blindfolded, or why the knife is used on someone breaking vow of silence.
Many never thought the journey direction east south west north, is going through birth, adversity, death, then rest.
The knife in stomach for instance is thorn in side, which equates to a curse. which is the intent of the comment in that oath, an oath I have not made, and most masons never made if they never thought of it that way. If they did have feeling of harm in comment then they would have.
But here is the thing, many Mason's are more of a material group, there power comes from protecting there own first, and secrecy of that two tier justice from outside. It presumes that 'the mason group' can supervise and punish its own group, and those on the outside need not worry about that.
Why the bankers were said to have no regulation and no oversight, and that they would regulate themselves.
But as said before, such things go sour, when in secrecy. As we have seen in many areas.
Although most Masons have great concepts of spreading knowledge and trying to teach, some think in hording knowledge by secrecy, a very few of them. Most work for better results with good hearts in my view.
But Masons know about the spiritual in different ways, just like in any other group. And I do not think of the organization in a way as a single concept or idea.
However
There is a conflict, it is a specific interpretation of text that says people should be stupid followers, without thinking and feeling, to be used by some supernatural element. The Supernatural I know gave free will and educates, and does not need people to just follow, but also to feel and think, and from that they end up doing what is best, since most people are better.
There are coercion supernatural. They need authoritarian followship and teach it is only trust and faith. Then there is education supernatural, that believes people can rule themselves and find better results, they include feeling and reason so people can be part of the decisions they make. The difference of 1 and 123. You can see many cults where people 'followed' and did what was bad, because they did not use discernment. And you can find many people that think on many teachings, and look inside also, when thinking on what they should do.
there are both of those groups in the Masons also.
