1. I am upset that we don't have all that neat stuff that was in that movie.

Not only that movie.

I feel cheated.

2. The Jetsons were notorious for needlessly raising our expectations.
They never told us that reality would eventually crush our naïve souls. :woohoo:

5. It's nice having a supercomputer on my desk.
That's what I always wanted when I was a kid. And the internet. And flat screen video.

But nobody ever expected it would be so difficult to create an Artificial Intelligence like HAL of 2001.

It's probably because there's no such thing as intelligence in a general sense. We are all just a huge tangled mishmash of subroutines, databases, sensory processors, and control systems. There isn't any destination called "Intelligence" we can get too. That's sort of obvious when you think about it. Everyone knows "very intelligent" people who have done very stupid things, or people who haven't got any "common sense."

Artificial Intelligence will creep up on us gradually. One of these days you are going to run into this creation that looks like a Segway with an LCD face mounted on the handlebars and you'll find its behavior eerily human. Or else you'll meet someone on the internet who isn't quite right... could be that's already happening.
