Anyone here ever read "The Satanic Verses" by Salman Rushdie?
I'm reading it now - hilarious, and filled with the darkest of dark humor...

1. "The Satanic Verses" was one of those books everyone bought but never read
Just because of the controversy around it.

8. I read it and can't remember one thing in it...except...
now that you mention it, the two people falling out of the plane. One of them is the devil. I think. And that's all I remember, folks.

4. Yes, I read it years ago. Great book.
I also like Haroun and The Sea of Stories. (I think that's the title)

5. I've been wanting to read it
I read "Midnight's Children" with my book club, and it was almost universally disliked. I think I called it the "best book that I really disliked". I could see, as I read it, that he was a great writer. But I just did not enjoy it.

But your review makes me want to try the verses.... I'll let you know

7. Yeah, I've read most of Rushdie's novels.
Reading "The Enchantress of Florence" now.

Have you read the section about Khomeini in exile yet? I've always wondered if that played any part in the fatwa, except I have a hard time seeing anyone in his inner circle actually reading through enough of the book to get to that part.
