Lizards, if you can spare a few good thoughts between now and Friady, our dog
Peanut (aka Cory) is having surgery Thursday to remove a possiibly cancerous growth in his face. He survided cancer surgery in January of 2010, but developed a longstanding resistant infection/cyst a few months later. He is a Doberman/Great Dane, and he is smarter than many of our neighbors...and he is a real gentleman.
Please send him any good thoughts you can spare.

Thank you.

4. Thank you- I will be near the phone today waiting for the hospital to call.
:hi:

We were lucky to find such a great animal hospital, even though it's a 40 mile drive.

5. I have a soft spot in my heart for Great Danes.
.
.
.
When I was in grade school, the couple behind us had one who used to run around in
a backyard contained only by a relatively flimsy red wooden fence. He almost certainly
didn't realize that he probably could have just STROLLED right through it. His barks
rattled windows and I and my friends were TERRIFIED of him. One day, his owner
coaxed us in close to the fence and my friends goaded me into trying to pet him.
.
That great big tongue of his goobed me right square in the face. It was disgusting
and, at the same time so hilariously over-the-top that I started laughing... which
caused him to lick me more... which caused me to laugh harder, etc. etc. 'til I was
leaning on and grasping the fence just to keep from falling down.
.
When we had both had our fill, I went home and, if Ghostbusters had been out way
back then, MiddleFingerMomMom would have thought I'd been SLIMED!!!!
.
.
We were the best of friends after that.
.
.
.
Though I've never seen Peanut's mix before, I know Great Danes to be big ol' goofy
gentle giant sweethearts... and I like him without even knowing him.
.
.
Good vibes go out for his surgery and recovery and comfort... as well as for your OWN
peace of mind.
.
.
.

8. Thank you for your kindness. Cory died in surgery. The cancer was in his brain,
and he lost blood pressure and they could not bring him back.

I will be gone for a while.

Thanks you all again.

generally live till 8 or 9. He had cancer in his brain, and never would have been able to beat it. The vet told me even radiation would not have done it-it had spread too far.
We are in contact with a rescue group called the Last Chance Ranch in Quakertown, PA and are probably going there next week to look at several of their dogs (They also have horses, donkeys and many other rescue animals.)
The house is just too empty without him, and so many dogs out there need a good home.

We will miss him for life.

Thanks again everyone.

31. Thank you again, everyone. He had cancer surgery in January of 2010, and
he had been fighting a very resistant infection for about 8 months. The cancer had spread to his brain, and he never would have recovered from Thursday's surgery to open up and remove the infection in his face.
We were expecting to bring him home from this surgery Friday, but he died on the table.
He will remain in our hearts, and we will search for another rescue dog- size extra large-soon.
He had had a rough life before we got him, but we spent 7 very happy years together.

Thank you all again.

of old age. I loved them and it has taken me years to find the interest in adopting another pet.

Nothing will help the pain you feel, dogs and cats are family. Remember the good times.
