When Was The Last Time You Bought a Newspaper? or a Magazine?
I cannot remember. I read everything online now. Haven't bought a NY Times in months, maybe even a year, maybe more. I don't have any idea how much it costs at the newsstands.

Can't even remember the last time I bought one of those.

1. I order magazines from the school...
for the rip off fundraiser but it's my last year of that!

I take them to the office and they get used in the lobby so it's not all wasteful.

I used to love reading magazines but now I don't have as much time and I can always find something to read online.

My husband likes getting Popular Science and Discovery at home. My kids like the sports magazines.

2. Today
Well, actually I subscribe to a newspaper that is delivered to my door every morning.

I also subscribe to over a dozen magazines.

I do read news from other newspapers on line, but magazine sites are generally too annoying to deal with.

3. 11 years
I read 2-3 a day before I moved back to the mountains. The local paper here prints like 2x a week and is basically an ad paper :D

:hi:

Can't curl up with a laptop or handheld the way you can with the real thing. I'll never give them up.

6. I haven't purposely bought a newspaper in decades.
Ever since seeing the decline in how the news was presented, and especially dumbed-down, I stopped subscribing.

However, I do get two magazines subscribed to me (annual Christmas gifts from family):
Consumer Reports
Bottom Line Personal

Years ago I used to subscribe to The Nation, The Texas Observer and Cooks' Illustrated, but dropped them during hard times. I don't really miss them now.

The only magazine I do miss is Gnosis, but they went out of business in the 1990s :(

needs hard-copy reading material because he doesn't work in an office.

9. I have the Sunday paper delivered
Sometimes I don't even read it but other times there is nothing like coffee, the paper, two dogs and two cats in bed with me on a Sunday morning.

I also have this obligation to support the printed word. I would hate to lose our local paper.

As far as magazines go, I think my wife's subscription to Black Belt is the only one that's active right now.

14. We subscribe to the Washington Post
and most days, my husband picks up the NY Times
We get a free local paper once a week
Sometimes we also get the NY Daily News

I can't imagine starting a day without reading a daily newspaper. I'm a former newspaper journalist and I'm addicted to newspapers. When we travel, we always get the local newspaper.

However I do not watch TV at all, unless there is something major going on like the protests in Egypt.

17. I get the local paper daily. Touching paper is comfortable for me.
We are in a news dead zone here. I am right on the border of PA and OH. I live in PA and the "local" news on radio and TV is in OH. Needless to say, unless there is a huge multiple murder on this side of the border, you will not hear about it. And there is no local and state news available from them.

So the local paper is necessary to keep up with what is happening in my community and area.

I get no magazines anymore.

19. I get two daily papers, a couple of magazines, and some Bar journals.
Of that, only one (a photography magazine) is "fun". I've thought about letting the newspaper subscriptions run out, but thus far I have relented because I enjoy the crossword puzzles.

I like reading a paper, in my hands. We also get Natl Geographic and The New Yorker. I read things online, too, but I like the tangibility of a print paper, mag, book.

and we subscribe to 3 magazines.

Please note, we are both tech-heads so we get most of our news online but a) want to support the local economy and b) still feel there are certain publications worth taking time with...

Our sales are down to an almost unbelievable degree.

I mean, we're talking over a 50% drop from 3 or 4 years ago.

I suspect it's only a matter of time before the place folds up.

Edited on Thu Feb-03-11 11:20 PM by Rob H.
11 years ago. That particular employment experience was so god-awful I started getting the bulk of my news online, instead. (It was a Gannett paper, fwiw.)

ETA: I'm down to one subscription to a quarterly magazine. The last time I actually bought one was probably at least three months ago.

It was the LA Times. I used to subscribe, but it is pretty worthless now. Our little neighborhood free ad sheet is actually a better newspaper than the LA Times, formerly one of the world's great newspapers.
