Check out Gustavo Dudamel....He's GOOD STUFF!!!
Gustavo Dudamel is the new 29 yr old conductor of the Los Angeles Philharmonic. His inaugural concert was October of 2009. He conducted Mahler's First Symphony. This is a DVD from Great Performances on PBS.
He is a product of the music system in Venezuela. Every year they take 100,000 kids out of the slums and give them a musical instrument when they are five years old and they take lessons after school every day.
Then they go to the Simon Bolivar National Youth Orchestra. Gustavo is a product of that system; he started out on the violin.

1. Brian Lauritzen, the son the the chorus master Martin Lauritzen
was with the Los Angeles Philharmonic today, broadcasting live from London. Beethoven 6th or something. It was broadcast on KUSC, which is the only station I listen to.
If the concert began in London at 8 p.m. then I guess it started here at noon or so. (ah 11.)
Dudamel conducting.

4. Thank you for replying,
I assume that nobody who hits the Lounge knows or cares about classical music or opera.

I didn't GET opera, until they started putting the words up in English over the stage in real time.

Then I got it.

Now it's amazing. It's got amazing lights, sets, costumes just like other forms of theater.

The singers act now, they don't just stand there and sing.
And a lot of the love duets almost turn into the horizontal bop.

5. Dudamel ROCKS!
His recordings with SBNYO are fantastic. I am saving up my pennies for a trip to see the Phil when he conducts!

6. Watch this incredible performance....
Here Dudamel conducts The Teresa Carreño Youth Orchestra for a the TED conference two years ago. The kids are amazing to watch... such passion... And, I've never seen an orchestra dance while playing before...
