I think it was "Maneater" when they lost me, but "You Make My Dreams Come True" was a badly overlooked little confection for a long time.

17. "Some Things Are Better Left Unsaid" was AMAZING...and their last "great" song.

I always thought of them as an act that had one KILLER single CD...80 minutes...worth of GREAT music, with a lot of album filler and some downright crap.

I know there are people who don;t like songs like "Sara Smile" and "She's Gone," but those are generally people whose opinion doesn't matter to me anyway.

Hall & Oates are just like the Doobie Brothers. I have a single mix CD of their best stuff and anything that's not on that CD is a candidate for getting tossed out the window of my moving vehicle.

18. Love 'em in all eras

Several of their '70s albums are weirder and more musically diverse (and, not to mention, highly underrated) than those who only know them for "Maneater" and the like would ever imagine.

A lot of it, to my ear, doesn't hold up very well. Daryl's still a helluva singer and a not bad musician. Except for his taste in guitars, which runs to Taylors.

25. They're an incredibly under-rated band.

I mean, they had a crazy number of singles, most of them were pretty darned good. 34 singles on the top 100 charts, damn. That said, their synth-heavy stuff tends to suck. "Sarah Smile", "She's Gone", "Rich Girl", all awesome songs. Hell, I even love some of their cheesier stuff like "Private Eyes" and "Make My Dreams Come True" (mostly because it's the song most frequently used in cheesy montage sequences, only perhaps challenged by Poison's "Every Rose Has Its Thorns").

If you can watch this scene and not at least crack a smile, you need to check your pulse.
