GAH! I loved Sheilds and Yarnell. Yeah yeah yeah, I love Mime. A man shouldn't have to admit that in public. But here I am.

They were awesome!

3. I've never understood "mime hate"...

...other than maybe an early incarnation of hipster attitude -- "It's COOL to hate mimes... therefore, I hate mimes... ... ... ... man."

4. Mimes are French. So the Antifraconic Saxons among us might have axes to grind
France is awesome, just like the UK.

8. well, I wouldn't quite call that mime as much as charades
Edited on Mon Dec-27-10 01:20 AM by gmoney
and it does bug me that he gets the guitar slide wrong at the end... but it was brilliant to have Natalie Imbruglia walk on like that.

Wasn't Yarnell inside the "Dot Matrix" robot outfit in Spaceballs? (Voiced by Joan Rivers)

10. I think the guitar "mistake" at the end is intentional -- it IS, after all...

...a comic piece... and someone that attuned to body movement is
not going to make that big a mistake, musician or not (that's an oft-performed
piece, obviously... so he's heard that before).

11. No, I've seen him get it right elsewhere

I think he was just a bit nervous with Natalie right there and a huge audience and all...

12. I was annoyed and creeped out the first time I saw it done...
I don't know... the make-up, the overly snug outfits, the silent-movie exaggeration of the gestures and all... and the general smugness of mimes I guess is the worst part for me.

Show me a mime with no clown make-up, street clothes, a little humility, and an understanding of nuance, and I might enjoy it. That might be a good description of Charlie Chaplin, actually... yes, give me Chaplin over Marcel Marceau any day of the week.
