1. we live on a big hill that often is icy - if it looks bad or hasn't been salted
we don't go down. I'm always surprised that more people will go down these hills when they are slick. I'm just amazed that so many cars were able to get out of the way of the onslaught. That was very scary... I hope no one was seriously injured.

2. scary indeed.
The hill doesn't really look that big.

It's kind of fun to watch, though since the vehicles are generally not going very fast, and I know my vehicle isn't going to be part of a collision. :)

But, it would rally suck to be part of that.

3. That was just painful to watch, and I know that no matter how slow it looks to the viewer to
the person in the car who can't control it it's got to be freaking scary. :(

4. That happened on my street in Boston back in the early '90s
Edited on Sun Dec-19-10 03:39 PM by MorningGlow
Honestly, the street didn't even look like it had a downslope, but apparently it did. One winter morning I woke to the sound of vehicles gently crashing into one another, very slowly: THUD ........ SLAM ......... WOMP ........ etc. etc. etc. For the entire morning commute. I had to go to work that morning, and sure enough, I was sandwiched in a slo-mo four-car bumper bopper at the stop sign at the end of the block. We all checked to see that nobody was hurt, shrugged, and went on our way.

5. I think the idiot pedestrians terrify me even more than the sliding cars
Edited on Mon Dec-20-10 12:23 AM by struggle4progress
Whoa! I sure am getting a good close look at the cars sliding in the street completely out of control!

:scared:

7. The insurance companies are gonna shit!
I'm not happy about the fact that I have to drive up one of the steepest hills in Tacoma to get to work. No problems so far...

9. The feeling you have in your gut...
...when you press the brake, turn the wheel, and realize that there is nothing, absolutely nothing, you can do to avoid the collision. And these kind of collisions give you lots of time to stew in that feeling before the moment of truth.

Not a good feeling at all.

11. Oh yeah, I know that feeling all to well
We mainers are very adept at driving in snow and even the deep slushy stuff that can pull our vehicles around. But I've yet to find expert ice-drivers here, -or anywhere for that matter.

Yikes that video was scary! :scared:

14. I'm with you on that...
Michigan here. I can drive on any snow you give me...ice? Uh, no. Very few can; that said, some believe the bullsh!t the car salesman sells them, and, well...that video is the result.

I've done a magical, balletic 360 on black ice in my day. Well, when I say it was magical and balletic, that was because I was at least 360 percent terrified at the time...thankfully I made it through, but I respect what nature can (and does) do. So I SLOW DOWN. Or figure out how NOT to drive...

Maybe I've grown up. :)

12. Goose bumps just watching that video.
Brings back a memory of doing a 360 degree spin when I hit a patch of ice a few years ago. No way to control the spin. Big Chevy Beauville van, thank heaven no-one else was coming or I would have been toast. I was going only about 15 MPH. Scared me to death.

That's an awful feeling, suddenly having no control. I hate winter :( (and I try to avoid hills...) :scared:
