Dec not even here yet and already sick of "holiday music"
Damn do they have to have every grocery store & gas station pa rum pum pumming from Thanksgiving to New Years?? I remember when the started the Christmas carols like, a couple of weeks before Christmas. I've already heard that Gotta Buy Shoes For Dyin' Mama To See Jesus With thing like 3 times. Gonna need some of those Bose noise cancelling earphones to make it through the holidays with spirit in tact!

1. Good news for you!

now it's Dec :)

only 16 more weeks of holiday music - unless the groundhog sees his shadow, then it's 4 months.

or something.

Luckily for me MY b-day is Jan 2 so my favorite gift is the end of the commercialized holiday hoopla!

4. More good stuff

I love this song, written by a Spanish composer in Peru in the 17th century and based on a song of the African slaves brought to Peru. It's about the wise men following the star to Bethlehem.

There is so much great seasonal music that it's a shame that the radio stations play the same ten songs over and over (with the addition of new sentimental country-western treacle every year).

If you have a classical radio station in your area, listen to them for a break from the Muzak. If they play Christmas music, it will be the good stuff.

6. Juan de Araujo is awesome.
There's a British choral group, Ex Cathedra, that has recorded some of his music. I have their recording, Fire Burning in Snow, which has a lot of his music, as well as the first known example of polyphonic music in the western hemisphere. It's a wonderful processional piece in Quechua.

8. I have a large collection of classical, medieval and other types of Christmas
music. So I don't usually have to listen to the usual stuff.

thanks! :hi: Lydia!

5. I hate that crap too!
It's one of the reasons I hate the holidays. I can only listen to it Christmas week. And that';s it.

7. I love Christmas music.
But I tried to listen to some on the radio the other day and ended up turning it off. Where is the good stuff anymore? All I heard was crap. No wait, I did hear Brian Setzer Orchestra's Nutcracker Medley. That was pretty good. But otherwise? Neh.

10. That's why you need to turn your radio dial (or Internet settings) to a classical station
Edited on Wed Dec-01-10 12:19 PM by Lydia Leftcoast
If they play Christmas music, it will be high-quality music.

If you don't have a classical station in your area (and sadly, there are fewer classical stations than states in the U.S.) try these online:

http://allclassical.org/ --The station I used to volunteer for in Portland

http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio3/ --Classical, jazz, world music, and performing arts news and interviews

16. Jazz station also has some good christmas music
I wish the public places would tune out the pop and get a little jazzy or classical this time of year really the uber-commerical Christmas music is so annoying.

12. Well yeah and all the "Christmas spirit" at the stores is just
Psych-op to consume, consume, consume! Really by 12/25 isn't everyone sick of the "good news" that is not at all news anymore? LOL and yes I admit to being old and cranky on this subject!

"Charlie Brown Christmas" is the only holiday music I really like & don't get sick of.
