Paula Deen Is Trying to Kill Us, Part 4: Bacon, Doughnut, Egg Burger

http://aht.seriouseats.com/archives/2008/03/paula-deen-is-trying-to-kill-us-part-4-bacon-donut-egg-cheeseburger.html

On Serious Eats, we've got a bit of a running joke about all the ways in which Food Network superstar Paula Deen is trying to kill us (see P.D.I.T.T.K.U. Parts 1, 2, and 3). Introducing the Lady's Brunch Burger, her doughnut-bun burger. Sure, we've championed doughnut burgers on A Hamburger Today before, and Ms. Paula's isn't all that much different:

Sandwiched between sticky glazed doughnuts? Check.

Bacon? Check.

But the Lady steps it over the top by adding ... a FRIED EGG!

1. blecch
ok i'll snork down a donut now and again
eggs fine
bacon i do like but it's got no real food value for an old guy and it don't flatter my waist none, so i really don't eat it any more
burgers i like too but i limit myself on them

but why would ya go ruin a perfectly good donut with an egg and a burger
and why would ya ruin a perfectly good egg or burger with a donut?

it's not even remotely imaginative: it's "lemme throw a buncha shizz together and pretend ima chef"

2. Reminds me of this one
This is a version of "Ooey-Gooey Breakfast Bread" as prepared by Rachael Ray.

Ingredients-
1 can Grands biscuits
1 bottle Aunt Jemima syrup
1 stick butter
1 lb. bacon
How to make it

Cook bacon, drain & crumble
Preheat oven to 375°
Put 3 of the biscuits in bottom of a loaf pan.
Tear apart a fourth and fill in any holes.
Put 1/2 of crumbled bacon on top of biscuits.
Melt butter and syrup together over low heat and pour half of it over biscuits and bacon.
Tear apart the rest of the biscuits and put over top of the ingredients in the pan.
Pour rest of syrup mixture over top of biscuits.
Put rest of crumbled bacon on top.
Bake for 25 minutes.
Flip pan over and put on plate.

6. I have never seen Ray use a fake maple syrup. She Always recommends pure maple syrup as

that's what she grew up with, and uses all the time.

I can see her to some extent offer this recipe YEARS ago, but she is exceptionally health conscious now.

8. I couldn't find her recipe, so I found someone's version of it
I grew up in New England, so I can understand sticking with pure maple syrup. ;)

The recipe isn't healthy, but it might be kinda tasty, except about 1/4-1/3 of the amounts of each of the other ingredients would be enough to go with that amount of dough (and I would use real maple syrup, which Rachael may have used).

I only watched her show a few times and, as I recall, her guest that day might have been Tom Bergeron. They sat at a little table and he took a couple of bites of the ooey gooey creation with some trepidation.

4. I like Paula,
but I do worry about her health. You'd think she wouldn't go overboard in this day and age.

11. That's why I can't watch her
I've lived in South Louisiana all my life, and I've NEVER heard such an exaggerated accent. Wherever she's from, I never want to visit.

Now "Barefoot Contessa." That's a sweet voice.

12. I agree yaawwaalllll, IMHO that accent sounds exaggerated, and I grew up in the south
even the heaviest of Alabama and Georgia accents I have heard are not as thick. When she first came on I would watch her show, because she actually had some good ole southern cooking recipes, but haven't watched her show lately, may have to give it a watch.
