I'm banned from FreeRepublic
It's heartbreaking, isn't it?

No, I didn't seriously expect them to like what I had to say. But tell me honestly, can you find anything particularly inflammatory about my posts? http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/chat/1107394/posts?page=8 If one of the freepers posted something along the same lines here, do you think s/he'd be banned?

Are these 2 boards free for everyone to discuss issues in a civilized manner; or are they reserved as venting places for our respective parties, with arguments only being acceptable between 2 members of the same party?

I ask this because I'm concerned about the "Why don't you just shut up" movement that seems to be driving the rethugs at present. Does it infect all Democrats as well? I know I wish they'd just shut up now...I'm tired of the same illogical, half-assed, bullying excuses for doing things the Dumbyass way.

How can we hope to bridge the gap that divides Americans if we aren't willing to listen to each other? I'm frightened by what the future may hold. We've got to get Kerry in the White House at any cost; but once he's there, I hope he's got what it takes to woo people away from Limpballs and Foulwell and their ilk.

12. I don't know if these freepers have the ability to think. It seems that
you can't have a discussion about the facts with them. They are just repeating Bush's talking points and never add anything new. Like little brainless robots.

3. I have to say...
Edited on Tue Mar-30-04 04:50 PM by TXlib
if a newbie here posted a link to archives from several years ago that illustrated a 180 degree flip in some position, I'd be immediately suspicious of his/her intentions.

But, I'd engage in dialog, rather than hitting alert.

You might have gotten away with it if you'd been a better-known, longer-term poster.

But I don't know why you'd want to hang out there long enough to establish the street creds.

7. Thanks for your honest reply
But while you might be suspicious, I somehow doubt that you'd immediately rush to have me banned; particularly if I wasn't acting in an offensive manner. Then again, maybe I'm wrong.

I guess I'd like to think that if a freeper posted something like that here, s/he'd get a detailed explanation about why our position was now different, and an opportunity to discuss the issue before getting the boot.

On the other hand, animosity over that dim bulb who illegally occupies the White House, and the barrage of bullying that he's pursuing against the world (especially women in his own country!)makes repiglican backsides appear such tempting targets....

11. Well I've yet to see
an intelligent attempt to discuss issues or find out where we as democrats are coming from via any freeper.

Have you?

Of course, I've also yet to see democrats turn 180 on an issue simply because their guy was in office.

Honestly, if Dumbyass got a blow job, I wouldn't want to waste taxpayer dollars on having his penis impeached.

They'll say exactly the same thing.

FR & DU are polar opposites politically, but essentially the same philosophically. These are places that those of like political beliefs can go and do their own thing, sort of a political version of "guys night/girls night out".

Yahoo and AOL seems to be just flame secessions. You might want to try some of the smaller right-wing forums if you really want to discuss issues with them, or question some of the right-wing bloggers out there. My only advise is to approach them politely, not talking bad about their beliefs or otherwise belittling their politics, and just tell them you want honest answers. See what happens.

21. I was polite
And while DU is certainly our turf and FR theirs, I don't see anything objectionable if one of them wanted to politely discuss issues here.

It's my option to choose to involve myself in a debate with them or not. The same as with any thread. We can argue with each other here...why not them? What about offering a forum for such discussions, so people can still retreat to the lounge or some other forum to discuss things in a "Democrats only" setting?

However, if we are not welcome to debate politely with them in a similar fashion in FR; I'd rather not have anything to do with the pricks.

Good.

To: SufferinSuccotash
Why the personal attack on me?
Because you are the other.
The ubiquitous enemy that must be destroyed at all costs.
Your humanity can never be acknowledged.
Plus, there's nothing good on TV right now.

This is scary. And to think that my town is full of such people?

20. I know. Our strength has always been in our ability to talk and
to listen. Compromise. I've never seen a division like what we are going through now. I'm noticing also, though, this doesn't seem to be just an American (US) phenomenon. It's happening all over the world. It's probably because of corporate globalization.

But, what to do in the US? Well, it's obvious Bush is NOT a uniter. He has to go, then maybe we can all settle down and talk. I don't HATE all Republicans, but Bush stirs an ire in me and half of the rest of the country that is verging on explosion. We can't have somebody like that in the White House. And, I think the talk radio and cable news people can take a lot of blame in fanning the flames between the left and right ideologies more than anything. They need to calm down. But, they won't, they're making money, and now we're going to be pulling our guns out with the Air America radio. (Which I can't wait for. I'm human.)

But, more than anything, Bush has to go.

25. This is what I don't understand...
How can republicans remain silent about Dumbya's blunders? How can they refuse to listen to such a large number of people who feel anger and hatred toward him, his misadministration, his party, and their destructive agenda?

There are a few brave moderate souls who speak out on occasion; but they're too few in number.
