We're off to the shelter tomorrow...I'm not looking forward to seeing this pup

Hello there, my name is Chance and I am a 6 month old black Lab/ Hound mix boy with a little story to tell. I was born with deformed front legs that caused me pain and much difficulty walking. A very kind volunteer at our shelter offered to pay for a surgery that will help my legs to get me around better and they won't hurt anymore. I had the surgery on both of my legs and I am doing much better. I still have a little difficulty, but walking and running around is getting much easier for me. They have a pool here for me to do some hydrotherapy, but I'm not too crazy about the water right now. Maybe I'll grow to like it as I get a little older. Aside from my medical issues, I am a very sweet boy. I am housetrained, especially if you don't make me wait too long and you can read my bark that says, "I need to go potty!" I am very sweet natured and love to snuggle next to you on the couch. I love to be on a snuggly bed or blanket and there's nothing better than you beside me there! I love to play with toys in my kennel. I see other dogs playing fetch, and maybe someday that will be me, but right now running a long way doesn't feel good on my little legs. I had a difficult early life and was picked on by another dog, so I have issues right now with getting along with other dogs. However, I'm seeing how much fun the other dogs at the shelter have running and playing together so maybe one day I will trust another dog again. I hope you will take the 'CHANCE' to come in and meet me and that you and I can fall in love. If you have any questions about adopting Chance please call the Northwoods Animal Shelter at (906) 265-2790.

---

We already have 4 dogs and 4 cats at Casa Del Parkinson. Apparently he needs a home without other dogs anyway.

I just look at that face and melt. I could never volunteer full time at a shelter. I'd be a pet hoarder for certain.

1. LOOK AT THAT FACE!
I want to hug him soooo bad. It shouldn't be too long before he finds a home. When I adopted a one-eyed cat, I told the volunteer I was worried he would never find a home because he wasn't a perfect kitteh and she said the disabled animals are often the first ones to go -- they really elicit a strong emotional response in people. :hi:

2. This is so good to hear.
The picture and description in the OP, made my heart sink, your post helped that. I give money to the organizations that help animals, I used to volunteer, but it was so emotionally draining, I could never get used to it.

4. My mother was told something similar to that one time at the shelter.
We lived in the country and every so often and pregnant dog or cat would get dropped off and find their way to our house. We would keep them until the kittens or puppies were born and take the ones we couldn't find homes for to the shelter in town. There was a litter of kittens that was just absolutely homely looking and Mom was afraid they would never find homes. The lady at the shelter told her that the ugly ones usually went first. People would come in and say things like "He's so ugly no one will every give him a good home. We'd better take him."

6. That's how I am...
I see someone that I know no one else will want and realize I have to protect them. Damn mothering instincts.

7. heartbreaking -- reminds me so much of my boy

who is almost 5 months. (He found that bib on the sidewalk and he loves it btw.) So glad he is healthy. My prior dog was a rescue who came with a broken front leg and a horrible skin condition courtesy of the a-hole that thought he was going to guard his auto body shop. The pin in the leg bugged him throughout his life.
