So I won the eBay auction and bought the Guitar!!!!!
I find a link to the original thread in a minute, but this I once owned a guitar like this and foolishly sold when I was about twenty--manly because I was getting into jam rock and this thing lokoed a little too heavy metal.

That was about the dumbest thing I ever did that did not involve a woman, well okay, did not involve Juli--but there you go! For whatever reason, no other guitar seemed quite as fun, and I REALLY missed the Kahler bridge. I iike a little whammy bar fun from time to time, and the floyd rose style just pretty much sucks to my taste; they are too finicky, too much work, and too heavy handed.

I don't know if F. Scott Fitzgerald would be pleased, but I truly feel like I am going home again!

2. Thanks (guitar) man!
The former owner put in an EMG pickup--I really, really liked the Hamer original, it had a nice crunch, but wasn't so hot it killed the high end, and I could get any sound I wanted just by turning down the guitar volume, from sweet clean and pure, to full heavy metal crunch--without having to touch my amp. This EMG looks pretty damned good, but I may have to replace it anyway.

Man, I was sweating bullets as the final seconds ticked off....

5. I know what you mean by "too metal"
I was surprised to learn that that body shape dates from the '50s - It just seems so quintessentially '80s metal.

8. Yeah man! Lonnie Mack!
Lonnie Mack first made that V body style guitar famous back in the 50's. If you think about it, they go well with the era of big fin cars.

10. Sweet. Here's a tune featuring the prototype of my new guitar
This is a "Vector KK Downing Model" which is why I bought originally, truth be told. It's only been over the years that I realized just how well the damn thing fit my style.

When I was a teenager I LOVED wailing away with feedback and doing divebombs and related activities.

The V roars about 3 minutes and 20 seconds in.

6. I like the color. V's are THE guitar for doing the guitar dong thing.
You know, where you put the V cut into your crotch and hip grind, hammer-on a few notes with one hand and do this with the other :headbang:

Have fun with it 'cause thats what guitars are for!

The crappy economy has forced a lot of nice guitars onto the market. Some for really good prices.

Does at have a Kahler? or Floyd Rose?

7. This one still has the original Kahler.
It shows up really clearly in one of the close-up shots on eBay.

Part of me feels a bit sorry for whoever had to sell this thing, but since I don't know their story, I will just be glad to be reunited with a long lost friend.

12. I hate looking at guitars on eBay - I manage to find at least one I want
every time I look around there...I already have 6 electrics, but there is always something that gets my eye...

Always wanted a V...

Good luck - enjoy it!
Sounds like you are in love...

not F. Scott Fitzgerald.

Nice guitar, though. Did you get a good deal?

17. I don't know if I was even aware of the Tom Wolfe quote...I was thinking
about how Gatsby was on a quest to undo a past misfortune and lost love.

Except the good news here is that this Flying V won't be speeding along, driving a car recklessly and run over and kill any secondary characters in literature! ;)

14. I don't know about F. Scott, but Zelda would be pleased.
I know because everyone in the family has a special connection to her spectral presence.

Actually, it's because as her cousins, about 1 in 8 of us are also completely wacked!
