Ice cream...beer. Ice cream...beer. Decisions, decisions.
Both involve bloating and gas, although I might get the hazmat crew out to my house if I eat the ice cream.. Both are delicious. Both can give you a headache. Both can be cheap or expensive. Both have a lot of calories. Both are delicious. I can get a buzz on the beer. I can still drive after the ice cream. Both are delicious. Decisions, decisions.

In my list of 'Top 3 Favorite Books' is John Steinbeck's "Cannery Row". The main
character, a marine biologist named 'Doc' has always been intrigued by a story he
heard once about someone who drank beer milkshakes. He has never done it personally
out of the fear that he'll be viewed as "an anarchist" -- his beard already granting
him a suspicious status (this is Depression-Era).
.
If I amember correctly, on a really bad day, he stops at a roadside diner and finally
orders one.
.
When the waitress looks at him funny, he explains that it's on his doctor's orders.
.
If I amember correctly again... it sucked.

BTW, if you read on the road, I highly recommend that book (AND the movie). It's an
EXTREMELY short book and an easy, FUN story.

2. I thought about that
A beer float, but it didn't sound like a good combo to me. I think I've heard of people doing that before, though. Thanks for the book recommendation. I know Steinbeck is considered a classic author, but I've never read anything by him. I could use a good book out on the road sometimes.

3. Beer floats work, but only with certain beers.
Beer floats with Guinness are the bomb. Beer floats with Budweiser are pukeworthy.

Unlike rootbeer floats, which work better with vanilla, a REAL beer float (usually called a Stout Float) works better with chocolate ice cream.

10. If you do decide on the ice cream ...
... (and I'm not saying you should), those lactose-digesting pills can make a huge difference in how you feel afterwards.

11. Who Put the Whiskey in My Milkshake?
Edited on Wed Sep-08-10 09:23 PM by elleng
THERE is bourbon in the Bourbon Street milkshake, served at Brooklyn Bowl, the loud, slick palace of fun that opened last year in Williamsburg. There’s also a sizable gobbet of Nutella, its nutty richness meant to evoke pralines — and by extension New Orleans, and by further extension the wild time you might have in New Orleans but are now presumably having in Brooklyn. And, of course, there is ice cream — the good stuff, with egg yolks and real vanilla, certainly better than anything you’ve ever eaten in a bowling alley.

(Surprised to see this!)
