George's old rockstar buddies, his boy and ... Prince.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HoR6YQ1V8ks

What I really like about this clip, besides Prince's awesome solo (and hilarious mugging) is how George's son (who is about my age) is pretty chill about playing on a stage chock full of '60s and '70s legends, but looks totally thrilled to be playing with Prince.

I usually don't like covers of Beatles tunes. But this is beautiful. Pretty much explains what jazz is in a nutshell. I usually play it for people who say they don't "get" jazz.

Edited on Sun Aug-29-10 07:08 AM by old mark
for the Stones by Lennon/McCartney - the Beatles did it a bit later. The Stones are very young here - Jagger probably 17 or 18... Check Brian's vicious slide work (On a big ol' Gretsch), Keith rocking out and Bill Wyman's amazing bass playing...Charley is perfect as always...

Link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i-G6tc1w_7g&feature=related

This was performed around 1964 or 1965.
The Beatles version is much more sedate.

mark

Added: This was performed/recorded in 1963. I had just started playing bass, and was a year away from my first job playing in a bar band. I was 15. (My wife was 7 and was not yet playing guitar.)

50. Several Beatles covers by Elliott Smith.
Which is epically sad, an amazing artist whose career was cut short covering an amazing band which I think ended prematurely. This is just some of the ones on YouTube. They were one of the major influences on Elliott Smith's solo work and those influences can be heard throughout his catalog. It's said he covered almost every Beatles song in concert at-least once. Most of them went unrecorded and were lost to history. :(

Because: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jvSdFr3niQM

For No One: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w-DCZwWsQYI

Blackbird: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xTOZTK-yDr4

I Me Mine: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=se4ngK0obFU

Revolution: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l22kGWbx82I (with Heatmiser rather than solo.)

Unfortunately, I don't know how good or bad these recording are; I'm posting them "blind" so to speak because I killed my speakers/sound-card and can't hear them. Still, to have a Beatles cover thread and not include one of the most prolific Beatles cover-artists ever would be remiss. Doubly so when it's Elliott Smith.
