1. Proud to claim Jim as (at least briefly) a hometown boy
(Jim lived in Albuquerque as a little kid and again when he was in junior high.) BTW, I recommend Ray Manzarek's autobiography (of both himself and the band) called, what else...Light My Fire. Manzarek's a very intelligent guy, (as was Jim of course; too bad he was also self destructively psychotic); writes very well with great knowledge and understanding of both music and literature, and it was a very interesting read for a real Doors fan.

2. Sometimes good to have a self destructive psychotic for a frontman...
although not for the frontman- but they can be very entertaining.

I never liked the Doors much till a few years ago, then I heard a lot of Riders On The Storm and got past my first impressions of it. I like a lot of their work now, of course a few decades later than everone else...I'm somteimes in my own world for a few years and try to catch up later...
I'm just discovering Weezer right this minute...
