I once, in these pages, noticed a vehement objection to the usage of that word used in a different definition of said word. (no it wasn't me saying it)

The non-offensive kind:

1.to make slow; delay the development or progress of (an action, process, etc.); hinder or impede.

(hell it might have been about an automotive ignition. I don't recall. But it wasn't the offensive usage)


No doubt the person objecting just searched for the word, found it, and totally ignored the context.
