6. "Crazy Blues" by the Big Bopper
Everybody knows him for "Chantilly Lace" but that song is commercial crap compared to his singing on this tune. The cat really had a GREAT voice. The lyric on this tune is brillianty clever if you try to catch them. Chick dumps the guy and your not sure if he's gonna kill himself or her or maybe murder suicide. The dude is seriously tripped out over the gal. Smokin' hot hillbilly jazz band backing him up on this song. Guitar work is sublime. One of my favorite songs and song themes! I've written a few myself.

I'm going downtown
to buy a gun
give me that long black
shiny one

I'm gonna end it
my troubles too
lord these crazy blues

I made you my queen
both nigt and day
snap your little fingers
and I'd be your slave
youd didn't want the crown
didn't want to be queen
you got the kind of loving
that makes me want to scream

Never liked this band that much but yet I do find some compelling things about their music.

Pretty popular in their time. Saw them live a few times. They always struck me as creepy.

Nothing says insanity like murdering your family and killing yourself.

23. Kewl.
Ain't heard that one yet. Used to go see his shows for five bucks back in the 80's. Smoked a joint in the van with them once. Now he has a tour bus, his shows are $30 and he has a signature guitar modelform Fender/Gretsch.

This 5 year stretch of austerity has really encumbered my record buying and show going.

For old times sake:

24. Insanity Comes Quietly to the Structured Mind-Janis Ian (no you tube; just lyrics)

Janis Ian Insanity Comes Quietly to the Structured
Mind Lyrics:
She sits on a window sill,
Looking down it's quite a thrill.
In a tree, imagining what it's like to be dead.
She walks out upon the ledge,
Searching for the living and she blunders,
Wondering just what has changed in her head.
Looking outward through my pain.
Looking through my window pane,
See her face turn into rain.

She prepares her face at last,
Taking off the piece of glass,
Wrapped around her eyes. She doesn't cry.
She's very young and very bright to die.

Then so quickly she stands up,
Takes her shoes off in a lump,
She lays them down. Lately she has frowned.
Checks to see her room is neat.
Making sure her clothes are clean, dying.
Hey, death and dirty clothing puts you down!
Looking outward through my pain.
Looking through my window pane,
See her face turn into rain.

And then so quickly she stands up,
< Find more Lyrics on http://mp3lyrics.org/b3Mr >
Crouches low, prepares to jump quite properly.
Pretending she's in gym shooting the basketball.
Floating downward through the air,
Remembering the state of her hair.
She falls. (She falls.)
And nobody hears it at all.
Looking out would clear my pain.
Looking through my window pane,
See her face turn into rain.

Yes, I look outward through the rain.
It has washed her mind away.
I went ahead and made my bed.
Nothing really more need be said.
As she is dead.

You can have it, 'cause I don't want it.
If you want it, you can have it.
I can't take it, I'm falling.
I'm calling, "Please, please, please help me.
Please, help me."

38. Excitable Boy - Warren Zevon
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7eUsSXXc8wU

Well, he went down to dinner in his Sunday best
Excitable boy, they all said
And he rubbed the pot roast all over his chest
Excitable boy, they all said

He took in the four a.m. show at the Clark
Excitable boy, they all said
And he bit the usherette's leg in the dark
Excitable boy, they all said
Well, he's just an excitable boy

He took little Suzie to the Junior Prom
Excitable boy, they all said
And he raped her and killed her, then he took her home
Excitable boy, they all said
Well, he's just an excitable boy
After ten long years they let him out of the home
Excitable boy, they all said
And he dug up her grave and built a cage with her bones
Excitable boy, they all said
Well, he's just an excitable boy

peace~

42. Acute Schizophrenia Paranoia Blues - Kinks
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uPMYkITzxn0

I'm too terrified to walk out of my own front door,
They're demonstrating outside I think they're gonna start the third world war,
I've been to my local head shrinker,
To help classify my disease,
He said it's one of the cases of acute schizophrenia he sees.

Well the milkman's a spy, and the grocer keeps on following me,
And the woman next door's an undercover for the K.G.B.,
And the man from the Social Security
Keeps on invading my privacy,
Oh there ain't no cure for acute schizophrenia disease.

I've got acute schizophrenia, paranoia too,
Schizophrenia, schizophrenia,
I've got it, you've got it, we can't lose,
Acute schizophrenia blues.

I'm lost on the river, the river of no return,
I can't make decisions, I don't know which way I'm gonna turn,
Even my old dad, lost some of the best friends he ever had,
Apparently, his was a case of acute schizophrenia too.

I got acute schizophrenia, paranoia too,
Schizophrenia, schizophrenia,
I've got it, you've got it, we can't lose,

They're watching my house and they're tapping my telephone,
I don't trust nobody, but I'm much too scared to be on my own
And the income tax collector's got his beady eye on me,
No there ain't no cure for acute schizophrenia disease.

No there ain't no cure for
Schizophrenia disease.

peace~

46. Deathspell Omega - The Shrine Of Mad Laughter
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xDnwd9GLhe0

God of terror, very low dost thous bring us, very low hast thou brought us

A sensation of everlasting rot and those frantic wails, no, it is not a fall into
the abyss, the defiance of descent, a coronation beyond liberty and slavery;
the cry of woe and deliverance exudes a flame, evasive as sound and ether:
an instant of collusion with death, without hope nor prospect, yet it is a
world below and above and in all eternity, a gift of fever, the wind of death
that sustains the life in me, yes, the lightness of hovering in permanent
anguish; i dared to borrow those words, to articulate them and to savour
their turpitude, as i beheld the shrine of mad laughter.

The limit is crossed with a weary horror: hope seemed a respect which
fatigue grants to the necessity of the world

As if Death was dashed onto the death within, a violent thrust stealing the
light of the eyes, a ray of darkness, a negation, the bread of bitterness that
ignites neither devotion nor fervour; resplendent nothingness! make all
things appear with clarity, ruined in the flame of repudiation, in the flame
of God! Interwoven joy and confusion, a stabbing confusion, asphyxiation
from within, yet i gained this certitude: malediction, degradation, sown in
me like seeds, now I belonged to my flesh; I belonged to death, in harbouring
a desire for the hideous, I was beckoning to death. Insatiable combustion,
expand, this body is thy vessel of grace!

The idea of God is pale next to that of perdition, but of this I could have no
inkling in advance

51. Crazed Institution - Jethro Tull
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W7ZLiOKkKIA

Just a little touch of make-up; just a little touch of bull;
just a little 3-chord trick embedded in your platform soul;
you can wear a gold Piaget on your Semaphore wrist;
you can dance the old adage with a dapper new twist.
And you can ring a crown of roses round your cranium,
live and die upon your cross of platinum.
Join the crazed institution of the stars.
Be the man that you think know you really are.

Crawl inside your major triad, curl up and laugh
as your agent scores another front page photograph.
Is it them or is it you throwing dice inside the loo
awaiting someone else to pull the chain.
Well grab the old bog-handle, hold your breath and light a candle.
Clear your throat and pray for rain to irrigate the corridors that echo in
your brain filled with empty nothingness, empty hunger pains.

And you can ring a crown of roses round your cranium,
live and die upon your cross of platinum.
Join the crazed institution of the stars.

peace~

53. Doctor to my Disease - Jethro Tull
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qy7DBqFmcls

I've been treated for mild depression
and I've been treated for growing pains.
I've been treated for hallucinations;
now I can see it all coming again.
Well, you can wind me up. Yeah, you can slow me down.
You can dig a little, and you can mess me around.
But there's one thing I should tell you, to which
you must agree:
There's no use you playing doctor to my disease.
Said it's no use you playing doctor to my disease.

I got no cure for this condition
that you've been causing me tonight.
Well, you put my heart in overdrive:
hand me the bullet I must bite.
You can stir me up and you can cut me down.
You can probe a little, push that knife around.
But there's one thing I should tell you, to which
you must agree:
It's no use you playing doctor to my disease.

Do you have to break my engine
so you can fix it up again?
Tuned to crazy imperfection
just to score me out of ten.
Well, you can wind me up. Yeah, you can slow me down.
You can dig a little. Yeah, you can mess me around.
But there's one thing I should tell you, to which
you must agree:
That it's no use you playing doctor to my disease.

54. Crazy--Gnarls Barkley (of course)
Edited on Tue Aug-03-10 12:31 PM by BurtWorm
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bd2B6SjMh_w&feature=related

I remember when, I remember, I remember when I lost my mind
There was something so pleasant about that place.
Even your emotions had an echo
In so much space

And when you're out there
Without care,
Yeah, I was out of touch
But it wasn't because I didn't know enough
I just knew too much

Does that make me crazy?
Does that make me crazy?
Does that make me crazy?
Possibly
probably

And I hope that you are having the time of your life
But think twice, that's my only advice

Come on now, who do you, who do you, who do you, who do you think you are,
Ha ha ha bless your soul
You really think you're in control

Well, I think you're crazy
I think you're crazy
I think you're crazy
Just like me

My heroes had the heart to lose their lives out on a limb
And all I remember is thinking, I want to be like them
Ever since I was little, ever since I was little it looked like fun
And it's no coincidence I've come
And I can die when I'm done

Maybe I'm crazy
Maybe you're crazy
Maybe we're crazy
Probably

69. "You're Driving Me Crazy" --- Rudy Vallee, 1930
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MLJl5gsX56I

You're Driving Me Crazy

You, you're driving me crazy!
What did I do?
What did I do?
My tears for you make everything hazy
Clouding the skies of blue
How true
Were the friends who were near me to cheer me
Believe, me they knew
But you
Were the kind who would hurt me, desert me
When I needed you
Yes you, you're driving me crazy!
What did I do to you?

You, you're driving me crazy!
What did I do?
What did I do?
My tears for you make everything hazy
Clouding the skies of blue
How true
Were the friends who were near me to cheer me
Believe, me they knew
But you
Were the kind who would hurt me, desert me
When I needed you
Yes you, you're driving me crazy!
What did I do to

76. Flagpole Sitta
By Harvey Danger

I had visions, I was in them,
I was looking into the mirror
To see a little bit clearer
The rottenness and evil in me

Fingertips have memories,
But can't forget the curves of your body
So when I feel a bit naughty
I run it up the flagpole and see who salutes
(But no one ever does)

I'm not sick, but I'm not well
and I'm so hot 'cause I'm in hell

Been around the world and found
That only stupid people are breeding
The cretins cloning and feeding
And I don't even own a TV

Put me in the hospital for nerves
And then they had to commit me
You told them all I was crazy
They cut off my legs now I'm an amputee, Goddamn you

I'm not sick, but I'm not well
And I'm so hot cause I'm in hell
I'm not sick, but I'm not well
And it's a sin, to live so well

I wanna publish 'zines
And rage against machines
I wanna pierce my tongue
It doesn't hurt, it feels fine
The trivial sublime
I'd like to turn off time
And kill my mind
You kill my mind
Mind...

Paranoia, paranoia
Everybody's comin' to get me
Just say you never met me
I'm runnin' underground with the moles
Diggin' holes
Hear the voices in my head
I swear to God it sounds like they're snoring
But if you're bored then you're boring
The agony and the irony, they're killing me, whoa!

I'm not sick, but I'm not well
And I'm so hot cause I'm in hell
I'm not sick, but I'm not well
And it's a sin to live this well

(One, two, three, four!)
