I was just eliminated from serving on a jury
Edited on Mon Jul-19-10 02:47 PM by Mr. Ected
There were 52 of us, selected to serve as traverse jurors in a Probate Court matter. At 9:00 this morning, we were organized into 4 panels of 12 and another partial panel of 4. I was in Panel One. The voir dire of our panel took almost an hour and a half. Two other panels were voir dired after us, and at around 3:30 the Clerk called for 12 of us plus an alternate to join him in the courtroom. The remainder, myself included, whooped and exhaled and walked to our cars and drove away.

I'm 50 years old, and this is the first time I've ever been called for jury duty. I think the fact that I'm a lawyer cast me as a poor juror, or maybe it was the fact that I ate a box of Oreos and didn't brush my teeth this morning.

1. You would probably make an excellent juror.
You even know all those legal terms, like voir dire!

I will plead insanity if that is what it takes to avoid jury duty.

2. I brought along a book entitled "Lawyers Are Liars"
I responded shiftily to each question posed of me.

On the other hand, it would have been interesting to sit on this particular jury.
