John Phillips - Wolfking of LA - Why doesn't everybody have a copy of this

Phillips' first post-Mamas and Papas album. Excellent - full of sweet Pedal Steel Guitars, John's already weary voice and songs of love an sorrow.

To me, this album pretty much represents LA in the 1970's.

It captures the post-Manson unease, but the still active look to the country.

Country Rock before there was Country Rock.

Hit your sorrow buttons as well as your happy buttons: just like a good opiate.

"April Anne" starts this off, with a nice street-savvy story about death and friends. "Topanga Canyon" conveys an almost reluctance to go to this canyon, where there might be pleasure, but also housed the Manson Family.

Get this album if you're looking for a new fold of the 1970's.
