I decided to weedwhack here at the Ponderosa.

That was a mistake.

A big one.

1. Never a good idea
I remember doing yard work in NOLA in the summer. It sucked beyond the bounds of suckitude.

3. Oh man, I feel for ya...
It is getting more difficult every year that goes by. My underwear, shorts and shirt were soaked through in about 30 minutes. I'm seriously getting too old for this crap, but I can't find anyone to do my yard that does it as good as I do. Plus, I hate paying 40 bucks a pop when all they do is come in with these huge mowers and spend about 10 minutes to do a shitty job.

:hi:

8. yesterday I was helping a friend
with some demolition on his old kitchen area, which will be replaced with a garage and an extension to the house - at the worst, it was 95 with a heat index of 108.

Worked about 5 hours in that.

Went through a lot of water and Gatorade.

17. yeah - I've been over there
several consecutive weekends.

He's actually at the beginning of a multi-year project, starting with tearing down the old patio (which is done) and the kitchen and "mud-room", and building a garage.

Then extending the basement and adding on to the house, an extension plus a new roof - in the end, the house will go from a 1000 square foot 3 bedroom, 1 1/2 bath house with a one car carport to a 4000 square foot house (including the finished basement and attic space), 4 bedroom, 3 1/2 bath house with a 2 car attached garage.

It's been miserably hot work, but I enjoy some physical labor as a break from my desk job. Also, he and his wife have helped us move twice since we've known them, and they feed us on average once a week - so we owe them :)

16. I worked in and around D.C. for a while...
.
...and believe it's one of the worst areas for heat
and humidity that I've ever been in (someone told
me a lot of D.C. is built on reclaimed swampland???).
.
.
I also TRULY believe that I've added years to my
life by moving to a place with low humidity -- my
body just did not deal well with it (when 17 years
old in amazing shape -- maybe too thin -- I was
training with the Army near San Antonio, TX and,
when we'd go out for our morning two-mile run...
by the end of the run, the guys in front of me had
a little triangle of sweat at the base of their backs --
I could literally take my shirt off and wring it out
like a waterlogged dishcloth.

14. Tell me about it. I'm about two hours up the river from you.
It's just as bad here. And, most of the time, I have to work outside in that crap--in chest waders (a.k.a. "the sauna suit"). Nothing like pouring a quart of your sweat out of your waders at the end of the day--after wallowing in it for hours. If I ever catch up with that S.O.B. who got me laid off of my old job...
