I'm confused about how teams are scored in the "play offs." Can anyone explain that system to me?

I understand about scoring during a game. What I want to know is how these groups of 4 teams are awarded the chance to go to the next level.

I'm sorry if my nomenclature isn't good. I don't know very much AT ALL about soccer...

Oh, and what the hell is that "hum" in the background all about?

1. When you win you get 3 points
when you tie, you get 1 point. When two teams have the same winning points it depends on how many goals were shot during a game. That is how the standings in one group are counted. The top two teams make it to the next round, the other two teams can go home.

Then in the next round, the winner of one group plays the second of another group.

2. are you talking about the World Cup?
Each team plays each of the other three teams in their group. If you win a game, you get 3 points. If you tie, each team gets a point. If you lose, you get zero points for that match. The top two teams point-wise in each group advance to the bracket round.

3. The 'hum' is coming from vuvuzelas
noisemakers that are apparently an African football tradition.

Then again, remember that other African traditions include the tsetse fly.
