Do you actually shop for clothes?
So once again I was reading YM out of curiosity at the waiting room and I see some article about how some girl was really scared about actually going shopping for clothes and was going with some girl who she thought had great style, blah blah blah, and I was thinking this was the most riduculous thing I've ever heard. How someone could spend hours on this is beyond me. That's when I realized I wear virtually nothing but jeans and I could actually do all my shopping for T-shirts at record stores and shows (not concerts, shall not get into difference here). And I have things far easier. So do you do things more my way, or actually spend hours looking at all sorts of designer stuff?

1. I'm going to work tomorrow
in a shirt and pair of pants my lady bought me today. They might not look right or fit me, but I'm wearing them.

2. I am guilty of the teenage girl factor
I like to go shopping for stuff with semi-designer labels. I have committed the horrible act of shopping at abercrombie and fitch many many times ( so stone my why dontcha?). But thats really all I wear...jeans and silly t shirts. I bum it at school and try hard to avoid wearing skirts at formal functions even if it kills me. I dont have the money to buy gastly expensive stuff and stick to my price range. I do feel fortunate though to be able to shop at these nice places cause a lot of girls my age can't. But I do not deny that I tend to enjoy shopping at nice places when I can.

4. No not really
I usually do it your way. I wear old high school wrestling tournement t-shirts. I wear rock t-shirts I buy at a shop in the mall. That's about it.

5. I would rather wear those than some of the
things I walk around with, but she meant well and I have to admit, they aren't too bad. I still like to wear shorts and a tshirt to work with sandals.

7. My wife buys all my clothes.
In fact there was only a short few years between college and marriage where I was actually responsible for dressing myself.

10. ugh, hate shopping for clothes
I've gone from loving clothes so much that I designed my own to wearing generic stuff (my fave is gardening clothes--big oversized T with cotton khaki shorts). I now hate shopping for clothes. What I hate most of all is public dressing rooms. Gives me the creeps. I have Monk-like tendencies, however!

Add in the expense of new clothes and it is truly not worth it. I would like to dress better because my spouse is the picture of sartorial splendor but I don't want to work at it so it isn't going to happen.

11. I have to do SOME shopping...
...but I shop at places like Marshall's when possible. I *have* to look good for work. I have to have on shirt, tie, slacks, etc...so, I want to buy the best quality possible without going broke. That necessitates actually shopping every once in a while.

But, when you go to fancy department store and buy stuff at 75% off, that's pretty sweet. :-)

12. Ugh...I hate clothes shopping...
My mom, on the other hand, loves it. I'm spending a day with her next week, and she wants to take me to the mall. The upside is she'll pay -- she won't make a campaign contribution, but she will buy me some "respectable candidate wife" clothing.

Normally, I don't shop unless I NEED something . Then, I go to the store most likely to have something of that nature in my size for a reasonable price, get in, buy, and leave.

25. Remember this when "respectable candidate wife" clothes-shopping.
Remember to walk in, stand up in, and sit down in everything you try on, especially skirts that creep up when you're seated, stay away from sheers, watch necklines if you're busty, don't be "too fashionable," and don't forget comfort. :)

13. I have enjoyed building a genuine wardrobe of clothing over the past
few years. I make conscientious purchases, and think carefully about what I'm buying. I make sure each piece fits well, is well made and is worth wearing. Most importantly, I try to LOOK FANTASTIC. As I stave off middle age, I LIKE looking nice. I like wearing nice things and getting compliments on a well put together ensemble. It's a genuine investment in my appearance.

Most importantly, I make sure I'm wearing clothes that LOOK NICE ON ME. I have flaws, sure, we all do, so I do my best to minimize them.

And don't get me started on shoes. American shoe styles SUCK. I was ruined, ruined I tell you, in europe.

The europeans have it all over the USA in terms of style and form, even just dressing for every day. I saw few jeans, no sweats, no track suits.

14. The supermarket does me
The big branch of Sainsburys about 10 minutes drive from my house, where I tend to do my weekend shopping, has a clothes section. I've got pretty much all my workshirts there, a couple of pairs of work trousers, a pair of jeans and a shedload of boxers and socks. I haven't been in an actual clothes shop for about a year.

When casual I usually wear t-shirts, but I've got a drawer full of them such that I won't need to buy any more for about 10 years...

15. At the grocery store
To get to the pharmacy I have to wander past a clothes aisle. If jeans or dress shirts or socks or underwear happen to be on sale I'll grab a couple as I walk past.

...and I'm gay. Maybe I need a visit from the 5 guys.

16. Shopping? <shudder>
I haven't been to the local mall in years. I'll let things disintegrate into tatters before I force myself to shop, and then it's usually online.

I went to target this week looking for some plastic storage tubs; while I was there I bought socks etc. to replace the worn out stuff in my drawers, 2 pairs of jeans, and 4 tshirts.

My work dress code requires collars on shirts, so I buy the polo version of school spirit shirts from the PTA. I do have a few dresses...jumpers, actually. All purchased online so I didn't have to go shopping. They can be worn with any shirt underneath, come with big pockets, and I wear my sneakers or boots with them.

I have no fashion sense, and no interest in fashion. Clean, in good repair, fits, and appropriate for the climate and physical activity...my requirements.

17. I'm a dream wife...
I spend so little money on clothes, my husband should be happy. But is he? N-O-O-O-O-O-O-O; he wishes I'd spend more money on clothes AND MAKEUP! I keep telling him how lucky he is. I bought five t-shirts yesterday at the Salvation Army store for $2.00 apiece, and they're gorgeous. (I'm glad I'm not the only one (woman) who doesn't go crazy over clothes.)

21. I'm an engineer.
At work I wear slacks (black, khaki, gray, and brown), and oxford shirts. Occasionally, I will mix it up with a tailored skirt or a sweater. Most of my shirts are at least 5 years old. On weekends, I'll wear t-shirts or sweaters and chinos or jeans. I rarely go shopping, and but when I do I like to buy things that will last for a while, so I'm not afraid to spend a little cash. I think my Catholic school upbringing is to blame. I don't like to think about clothes at all.

28. Too funny.
I could have posted the same thing. Everybody calls engineers conformist, but I think it's just different priorities. As long as all your body parts are covered and you're not (unintentionally) offending anyone, you can get on with what you really want to do.

22. Mainly shorts and T-shirts here
Or cargo pants or Docker-type pants and T-shirt and pile jacket (or sweatshirt) when it's cold. Running shoes all year. Formal wear extends to Hawaiian shirts. Used to wear denim a lot, sometimes with leather, but not so much lately.

My work doesn't require that I constrict myself with tie, suit, collared shirt, or any of that stuff, so I'm free to be a comfortably fashion-free zone. It's probably just as well that I don't get out much, because....well, just picture the Crocodile Hunter at a cocktail party - I hate getting into 'real' clothes though, I have to admit, it's such a novelty that it can have a "playing dress-up" feel. I have a feeling that I look as awkward as I feel when I'm wearing suit-like garb, because I'm just not used to it.

27. None of the above.
I'm an engineer. I wear the standard engineer uniform at work (Khakis and oxfords.) At home I wear T-shirts and jeans. Everything is mail-order. The less time I waste on that chore, the better. More time to read, garden, hot rod, you know... real life.

29. Sorry, hate to admit it, but I love to shop.

I'm a guy. 2 kids.

Love to shop, though. I don't freak out about the latest styles - mostly buy dockers/khaki's and polo shirts (office is business casual). I feel comfortable in khakis and a button down shirt.

After work, it's typically shorts/t-shirts, or sweats, depending on the temp. However, when mingling with the other members of the middle class, I like to wear nice-looking clothes. A designer label doesn't make much difference to me. But if it fits nice AND has a designer label, AND is reasonably priced (albeit on sale), bonus for me.

To make a long story short (too late for that, I guess), I like to look nice for the setting I will be in.
