Singers Who Could Really Use Singing Lessons
Edited on Sat Jun-05-10 02:57 AM by JCMach1
Please post a video of the artist from youtube as evidence.

In order to play, I would automatically eliminate artists who know they can't quite sing, but are mainly singer/songwriters. For example, everyone knows Dylan can't sing very well.

I would also eliminate artists who possess what Roland Barthes called 'the grain of the voice'... that is artists who have that hidden 'it' in their voice. Examples would include Johnny Cash and Edith Piaf.

My nominations, Nelly Furtado uggg... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NOY6IeQS6KA

1. Anyone who uses that pitch correction shit for more than just an occasional effect can go...
...take a flying fuck at a rolling donut. If I want to hear a computer fucking sing I'll learn how to program one to do it. :P

4. I was at the gym last night and I swear that EVERY song over 30 minutes...
was steeped in autotune. And you could tell every time that without it, the "singer" couldn't carry a tune in a dump truck.

Pathetic.

5. Amen....and (as a part-time) recording engineer, it's really embarrassing...
...when I have to spend hours, using enhancement products, while working on a "Take" to try to make it sound like music.

Some of these "Artists" are just Rich Kids with parents that want "To make my Ronnie a Star".

it's sickening....you know, the older stars like Barbara Streisand might not be everybody's cup of tea but at least, they sang on key and in tune....sigh...

18. We should get rid of actors who need to use ADR to get their voices on film, too
It's utterly shocking that they need to rerecord their own voices, for pity's sake! If they can't get it right the first time, then they have no business doing it at all.

For that matter, all stage actors who require audio enhancement should quit the business, too.

Hell, films that aren't shot in one take from start to finish, with all effects produced in-camera, should be banned as well.

20. to be fair, a lot of actor's voices need to be re-recorded due to all the ambient
sounds from the filming process. (I only know this because I watch LOTR and Star Wars extras incessantly)

7. Carrie Underwood, Beyonce, Paula Abdul, Whitney, Celine, Brittney,
all those American Idol jackasses.

Lots and lots and lots of bad singers who can only "sing" because the geniuses in the sound booth know how to use computers.

8. I got to say this.... William Shatner,
Granted he is not a professional singer, but he has apparently released some records in his lifetime. Leonard Nimoy sings better than Bill.

Mark.

Sorry no Youtube accesss @ work due to firewall.

16. Shatner knows he can't sing, so he does that "poetry reading to music" thing.
That having been said, Shatner's album "Has Been" (produced by Ben Folds) is genuinely brilliant, and highly recommended.

14. His best singing is actually done in a range that humans can't hear.
Dogs love him, though. Don't believe me? Crank up By-Tor and the Snow Dog around your pooch and see what happens.

12. Breath control.....
makes all the difference in the world. You can have a so-so voice and still be a good singer if you bother to learn the skill. JMHO
