2. My dear madinmaryland...
Oh, sweetie, that has to be tough...

For someone to have dementia and be in pain. Yikes. She's hurting and can't understand why, or what's happening or being done to her...

My best vibes to your mom and to you...I hope it all goes smoothly and that she will recover quickly!

Please take care of yourself...

10. Thank you, CalPeggy.
The dementia is the worst. It has been he** for her the last couple of years. So young to be struck by that disease.

:hugs:

5. Oh no...
it's probably very frightening for her, and you as well.

My grandmother fell and broke her hip, she was in early stages of Alzheimers, I saw the confusion mixed with pain, it's heartbreaking.

Good thoughts and vibes headed to you. Healing vibes for your mom.

Good luck with the surgery tomorrow.

9. Thank you, flvegan.
We are hoping that she comes through with the least pain also. Given the condition she is in, one really doesn't know.

Thank you again for your concern, flvegan.

30. Here are mine.
:grouphug:

Same happened to my mom some years ago, and things went well. Something to keep in mind, especially with current dementia: emotional 'reaction' to the anesthesia can be startling. I stayed with her as she recovered, even slept with her.

back where older people are concerned. So sorry.

34. My grandmother broke her hip at about 89 years of age...
She was also suffering from Alzheimer's, and was suffering quite a bit of dementia. She had to have hip replacement surgery. She made it through the surgery just fine.

It was a hard situation to deal with, because the doctors all tell you of the dangers of surgery. We were all concerned for her. Luckily, she was a "feisty old broad" (her words). She had to be feisty, though, as a Redskins fan. ;)

My thoughts are with you, especially as someone who has dealt with a family member suffering from dementia. I am sure you will be there for her, just make sure someone is there for you as well. Perhaps you have a co-worker or friend who has dealt with having a relative with dementia or Alzheimer's. Sometimes, just having someone to listen is a great thing.

39. Seems to be a very common occurance. How is your
mother doing? My wife's mother broke her hip a few years back. She was zonked out for a couple of weeks and then into therapy for a few weeks. She's back to normal self now (ugh!). She can't hear well, and gets pissed at my wife when she can't hear her. It's almost a Laurel and Hardy scene when they talk on the phone!

:D

41. The nurses said she healed faster than any patient they had seen before.
Which is amazing, as she's also recovering from brain surgery to remove a tumor last month. She broke her hip in the hospital parking lot as she was going in for radiation. She just came home on Friday after a week in a rehab facility, and when I spoke to her she was in good spirits despite all she's dealing with. She has chemo coming up in a couple of weeks, so any day she spends in a good mood is a good day, because the worst is yet to come.

My mother hears just fine, and yet our conversations are also like Laurel and Hardy. :D

I just had a time with my MIL who had dementia and was suffering. You could see how frightened she was. I felt so bad for her.

I can't imagine what that must be like.
