Just watched "It's Complicated" last night - what a really fun movie

Meryl Streep was just amazing in the movie. I love the fact that she's actually older than her 2 male co-stars and yet still starring as a romantic interest. (Streep is 61, Martin is 56 and Baldwin 52). I thought it was a great plot line and I loved the ending. Baldwin's naked scene made me spew my beverage from laughing so hard.

I don't know if Streep has had work done on her face but if she has you can't tell. She still looks stunning after all these years and this is the 4th movie where she played a romantic lead with several male co-stars younger than her (In Mamma Mia she was older than Pierce Brosnan (57), Stellan Skarsgård (59), Colin Firth (50), Julie & Julia Stanley Tucci (50) and in Fantastic Mr. Fox George Clooney is (49).

Hollywood tends to toss out older actresses as romantic leads sometime when they hit 40. The same leading men are playing the big rolls with a new generation of actresses in their 20s-30s. Meryl Streep is inspiration that if you have talent and avoid some of the horrible cosmetic surgery pitfalls they will still keep casting you as the romantic lead.

1. I thought it was a lot of fun, too....

And it was great to see three very talented actors in a movie that was about them, not their 20 + year old kids!

There is something about Meryl Streep that is just riveting. She was by far the best part of Julie & Julia (though I love Stanley Tucci, too). Alec Baldwin was a crack up in It's Complicated, and Steve Martin had this nice, quiet quality about him in the movie.

All in all, a very diverting few hours.

I wish there were more movies like this -- I'm weary already of comic book remakes and action pictures.

Edited for clarity

2. Well I do have Sex and the City this weekend
Rumor has it the movie isn't that great but was probably not reviewed by a diehard SATC fan. Of course SATC are over the top and a bit fantasy but for us fans we just love seeing what happens to our favorite 4 gals from Manhatten. What draws me to the movie is that these gals aged with me. I've always been about the same age as Carrie & Miranda (Charlotte is 1-2 years younger and Sam is a bit older) so watching it I can relate even if I can't afford all the fancy clothes & shoes.

3. Let me know what you think --
the series was fun, and the first movie was OK; SATC2 is getting shredded by reviewers. I don't necessarily follow critics, but I do wonder.

4. But remember the critics don't have the investment into SATC as the fans do
I've read a few reviews from diehard SATC fans and they love it and it's what you could expect from this series.

5. absolutely, and SATC has always been a target

...

And critics of course are competing with each other as to who can produce the snarkiest review.

Which is why I'm interested in your take - I trust it much more than the critics'.

6. You mean younger as in the character he's playing...
'cause I used to watch Steve Martin on The Smothers Brothers Show when I was a teen and he was
definitely older than me...but not by many years.

Steve Martin will be 65 yrs old this August.
