What's the most annoying breed of dog?
I'd say it's a tie between a beagle and a sheltie.

1. heh.
My mom has a puppy that is probably a mix of beagle and sheltie...So far she's a big sweetheart. Her previous dog, a sheltie was a sweet dog...but yeah, he was kind of annoying.

2. I think it's the lack of training and socialization that makes a dog annoying, not the breed.

8. You are so right , AG
Any breed/ mixed breed can be annoying, viscious, obnoxious, or deadly. It's all about the human interaction. Take the time to learn about dogs. We speak a different language both physically and verbally. Don't just expect them to "get it".

Educate yourself with a canine professional if you are having difficulties. As a bonus you will learn a ton about the human animal.

Maybe because I know several people with Goldens and they are crotch sniffers or pant-stinky-air-in-your-face types of dogs. But then, I'm a huge cat person so I don't have the tolerance for a lot of dog behavior that the dog people don't seem to mind.

31. I have one of those as a neighbor, too
the thing is, he'll be in MY yard barking at me.

I don't put up with that anymore. It's MY yard. Get out of it. Bark at me from your own damn yard, if that's what you need to do.

I'm seriously tempted to report the neighbors to the authorities for letting the dog run loose.

He's not a danger, hell, he's maybe 8 inches tall at the shoulder, fuzzy thing of no clear breed I'm familiar with, but for his own safety, he shouldn't be running loose. And crapping in my yard.

44. No, he definitely shouldn't be loose. One day he's going to meet a dog
much bigger and meaner than he.

Would it do any good to talk with the neighbor? Say something along the lines of, "I worry about your dog. He craps in my yard, and that's annoying, but if he keeps wandering around, some other animal may do him harm."

26. The most annoying dog I ever met was a Papillon.
But his owner was probably more at fault in creating and/or abetting his annoyingness. In any event, he was hyper and jumpy and yippy and leg-humpy, and none too bright, either. I don't know much about that breed in general, and I like most dogs, but that particular one just irritated the hell out of me.

Or I may just need to petition to send THEM to obedience school.

45. Labs
In my experience they're a) not that intelligent and don't respond well to commands and b) extremely hyperactive - which is a very bad combo, especially when the dog in question is big enough to knock you over.

Clearly, my experience with regards to, at least, a) must not be uniform as I am aware labs are commonly used as service dogs, and therefore some of them must be intelligent, but none of the admirable traits of the breed have managed to manifest in ANY of the 5 or 6 labs I've had the misfortune of encountering personally.

Beagle, a dog that likes to bark, with a bark that is high pitched and annoying.

As for Jack Russell's, I have had two and they are intelligent, loyal, protective and loving. They are also very stubborn, high energy, hunters and sometimes lacking in common sense.
The stubborn part requires their owner to REALLY be in charge and make sure the Jack Russell knows it. The hunting part is in the breeding and while you can minimize their desire to kill things and usually prevent it, you can not train it out of them. The high energy is also part of the breed and generally requires a fenced in yard where they can run or lots of walks.

Jack Russell's really aren't recommend for the novice dog owner or someone that lives in an apartment or other space where they can't get their exercise.

Our guy is amazing. He has SO much personality, he's fiendishly smart, super sweet, and makes me laugh every single day. I'm guessing dropkick's brother failed to give the dog any meaningful training or discipline whatsoever and the dog is hyperactive and barks a lot or something. Our corgi wanted to bark when we took him home, but we just told him "NO" sternly a few times, and now he only barks when he's truly agitated - never when he's excited or happy. It was so easy that I can't imagine someone not taking the time and effort to make the dog behave.

This is the real problem! My idiot brother hasn't traing the dog at all. I told him for a month before he got the dog that he was getting a herding breed so he HAD to train the dog. But no, he hasn't done shit to train him, so the dog is completely untrained and has pretty much every undesireable trait a corgi can have at this point.

**edited to add - the dog is also aggressive, attacked my pit bull and drew blood on Thanksgiving, and my oh so vicious 70lb pit just ran over and jumped in my lap to get away from him because she is a good natured and well trained dog, unlike that little piece of shit.

70. ANY breed in my neighbor's vast array
Edited on Fri May-28-10 08:45 AM by Crystal Clarity
of small dogs. Most of them are mutts I think. But they've got about 10 that run amok onto our property getting into our garbage on garbage day, terrorizing my 18 year old cat, and pissing off my german shepard dog. Our property is his stomping ground in his opinion. And on the rare occasion that the neighbors actually hook them up, they bark incessantly.

I don't blame the dogs though, it's their owners. They don't bother to spay/neuter them which is why there never seems to be less then 5 dogs at any given time. As far as them coming over here, well if I were a dog, I'd want to be as far away from those people as possible too. And regarding them getting into our garbage, well they're just doing what untrained, neglected (and possibly underfed) dogs do if given the chance.

My SO spoke to them about the issue the other day, which so far seems to have helped keep the dogs from coming over here...But for the sake of the dogs, I've gotten to the point that I'll probably be calling the animal welfare people anyway. We so far have been able to tolerate these people ever since they moved in about 2 years ago and we'd really like to avoid any possible problems. However my love for all things furry will probably be the overriding factor in this case.

If anyone here has other suggestions as to what to do, I'd be happy to hear them. Crappy situation all around... :-(

73. I house sat for jack russle terriers. They were cute enough untill I let them run free
in a park. They immediately started to invade groundhog holes and attack. The last thing I needed at the time was a dead groundhog on my conscience. So I kept them on the leash after that.

78. Cavalier King Charles spaniels
I dislike twitchyyapdogs in general; the combination of that with the fact that that breed's been warped to the point where their brain is sometimes smaller than their skull really gets to me. Their existence is intrinsically cruel.
