Pony People!
Go fig, my first post is about horses. :eyes:

Anyhow! All you equestrians in DU-Land, what do you ride? What was your first mount? What would you ride if money and time were no object?

I'm western/trail right now, on a school horse, a dark bay Percheron gelding named Lightning... yes, of course, he lives up to it. Hehehe. No pics, unfortunately, since I still haven't found time to haul a camera to the barn between classes. Blah. First horse was a rangy little Appaloosa mare at Girl Scout camp. Twenty some years of obsession, all on that poor mare's long suffering shoulders. If I had the time, money, and a horse who'd put up with it, I want to learn sidesaddle. I'm not much of a breed fancier-even though Percherons are starting to grow on me-but sidesaddle just looks fun.

1. We had a couple Percherons boarding in our barn (back in the day when I had a barn) and I loved them
so, so much. They were big, goofy guys and when they galloped it was beautiful. They were both black.

2. oh crap
Just realized first and current were/are paints. Mostly rode good Quarter ranch horses all my life. Have been on a few shetland ponies, a T-bred or two, a mustang mare, a neat little Cappadocian mare in Turkey, really good horses in Northern Mexico, and many, many, grade horses.

4. Welcome to DU, owlsayswoot!
I love horses. I used to ride when I was much younger, but never owned a horse. I was just a horse-crazy kid. Almost all of our neighbors have them now, so I can enjoy visiting them without any of the maintenance!

:hi:
