Poll question: Guitar Gawds: finger picking or plastic pick?
So, yeah. Do you like the feel the strings, well, as much as you can feel them through your callouses, or do you like the precision of the pick? Does it matter if you're playing electric or acoustic? If you use both, do you have a hard time switching between the two?

2. I'm a big fan of finger picking, but I just bought my first electric, so I'm learning to use a pick.
It's a bit weird to me, but I can't crank out Back in Black without a pick.

3. Both. Try flat pick combined with the last 2 fingers of the picking hand.
It will give you fits at first, but it can be interesting.

7. Oooooo! Will do once I retrain my fingers to know where the strings are.

Ugh. It's like learning to walk again. Plus I pick with my thumb and pointer and rest my other fingers on the guitar. That doesn't work so well using a pick. But I'm loving this guitar. <3!

4. Whichever one gets the job done.
I can't play Dissident Aggressor with my fingers

and I can't play More Than Words with a pick.

6. Flaminco requires that every muscle of every finger be coordinated
And then goes beyond that. But if you just want to play rock, use a pick. If you really want to hear a great guitarist, listen to Leona Boyd's "Spanish Album". One chick, playing one guitar, In the most amazing display of guitar art ever! This chick sounds like she has a 10 guitar backup band but it's just one chick and one guitar. The girls fingers must be made of butter!

10. Depends on what I'm playing. They both have their uses and place in performance.
Though, of course, being a man of refined taste, I'd never use a plastic pick.

I have mine shaved down from individual redwood trees and varnished with oil from the sabaceous glands around the eyes of the northern spotted owl.

11. my teeth unless I'm playing with the guitar behind me.
I use both my fingers and plastic pics, I also have some ridiculously expensive Wegen ( the ones with speed holes) and some very old (100+years) Tortuous Shell pics I've picked up for mandolin.

I prefer the old Pick Boy 100% Graphite pics but they don't make them any more. I have a bunch stashed in my studio. they make a nylon/graphite pic that just doesn't cut it.

mostly I'm using large triangular heavy pics when I need a pic. I used both pics and my fingers when playing my resonators & lap steel. I don't have a problem switching between the two.
