I finally got a pair of Bluebirds in my nesting box

Back in January I found a dead Bluebird in the nesting box. I've had this happen before. I assume it's Bluebirds that flew North a bit too early and got caught by a cold spell. I normally get a pair around mid to late February, but this year it didn't happen until today. At any rate, they are busy building their nest, so they appear to have found my nesting box acceptable. Now I just have to keep the House Sparrows from running them off.

2. They are very entertaining to watch

You can see them all day long. If they are not building their nest, they are eating bugs off my lawn or they are perched on a tree limb watching over their nest. They spend almost all their time in my back yard.

I hope this inspires more people to put up nesting boxes. They are easy to build and it's a very worthwhile endeavor.

4. We had robins last year

they built their nest on the back porchlight. It was cool watching the babies grow and fledge. One thing I learned about robins last year, they are VERY sensitive..they won't feed their babies if you are watching. They wait until you're not paying attention.

7. Bluebirds don't seem to care if you watch

They even stay in my backyard while I'm mowing the lawn.

8. Update: I found a clutch of 5 blue eggs in their nest today

Those little birds have been getting busy. With any luck in a few weeks I'll see the pair take their fledglings to my bird bath.
