1. That was awesome!
It seems that the slower rolls and maneuvers would be more taxing on the brain than the quick jerk ones! Very cool.

:yourock:

5. Ah, the A-10 Warthog, the tanker's friend.
That is, a friend if he's on the same side as you.

If you're a tanker on the opposing side, watch out!

14. The warthog was originally developed to take out soviet tanks
in east germany. Glad it's still in use though, it's my favorite military plane.

9. We see a LOT of these over Tucson...
.
... and they do LOOK like fat, lumbering warthogs compared to the
sleek sexy fighters... but after reading what they're capable of
and the POWER of their missions, they no longer seem to be the
fat wallflowers at the party.
.
This video helps dispel that illusion, too.
.
Thanks.

10. Like their namesakes they only look slow and clumsy.
Like their namesakes when they have their 'tude on, they're figure skaters on speed.

11. Yep. But seeing them flying in to land as DM, one wonders how they stay in the air
They look like they are going so slow that they might just fall out of the sky.

But if I was in an enemy tank or convoy, that 'low slow' behemoth coming at me would remind me of my mortality. I know they are effective.

That cockpit video shows agility, if viewers pay attention to the fact that is all takes place in very little airspace right over the base. Pilot just about dances on the head of a pin.

16. Indeed. The most hair raising thing you can see in your rear view mirror.
Used to watch the NY ANG take off from the Syracuse Plane Patch. A pair of them would do a bat out of hell run down the line, pull their girls back on their tails and just about go vertical.

Impressive Grasshopper.

The NH ANG will run the Pemi River out of the Franconia Notch. You'll be at a bridge, hear this thrum in the distance, then BOOM! -- Hogs at 200 feet over the deck, disappearing toward Weirdo Beach, leaving cartwheeling moose, fish, bear and babbling tourists in their wake. Summer in NH - it's special.

17. LOL do tanks have rear view mirrors?
I suppose seeing an A 10 in your car mirror would be a jolt too

18. If I were a tank driver and there were Hogs prowling around,
I'd definitely have a rear view mirror for that sacre merde! moment.

13. Throttle jockeys are OK, but what I really loved about the air show
was the WWII vintage planes.

No plane as pretty to me at the B-17. One morning, as that one passed over our apartment, my daughter stumbled out to the patio and asked what that weird noise was. I told her it was airborne majesty which just passed over head.

Used to watch bombers fighting fires in So. California when I lived there. Amazing grace in and out of tight canyons where the fires would create unpredictable winds. One guy did it with a B-17. He was an artist.

15. I like the B-17
There was one at Marana Air Park when I worked there one summer in high school.

Later when I was in the USAF, I worked on the B-52, now my favorite bomber.
