I'm With CoCo UPDATE: Letterman is kicking Leno's weasel ass 6 days after his triumphant "return."

For the first time since Jay Leon returned to 11:30, The Tonight Show trailed Late Show in the early metered market numbers (3.5 rating for Letterman versus 3.2 for Leno). In the 25 markets with local People Meters Leno held a slim edge with adults 18-49, but he did yesterday as well and when the numbers for the broader national market were factored in, Late Show wound up leading Tonight Show in the 18-49 demo, too.

Today’s rallying cries will range from “See, I knew it!” to “Of course Letterman won, his extortionist was just sentenced to six months of jail time.”

2. What cracked me up was that NBC thought Leno could have Lindsey Vonn

on that first night and that Leno's ratings would be good because of it. As IF we hadn't seen Lindsey Vonn ad nauseum for the previous 2 weeks. NBC showed Lindsey at every possible opportunity. Lindsey clapping for her German friend. Lindsey hugging her husband. Lindsey crying. Lindsey falling on her back at the bottom of the run.

By the end even my husband (who's a normal guy after all and thinks she's cute) was rolling his eyes every time they showed Lindsey Vonn.

5. Phew. Thank you. Truly, I had wondered if it was just my husband and I

who felt that way.

One thing that cracked me up was that I was watching the Olympics in the family room and my husband was in the kitchen. I heard him let out a huge "aarrgh" sound and I thought that maybe he had cut himself with a knife or something. Turned out he was watching from the kitchen and was just disgusted that they were showing her AGAIN. That's when I was really sure that NBC had overdone it with the Vonn coverage.

3. If NBC cared about ratings

they never would have moved the Tonight Show with Jay Leno to 10pm in the first place. NBC was perfectly content with Leno's crappy ratings at 10 because it was cheaper than the alternative (developing original programming).
