Since Whiskey has come up here, I have a question about a Pinot Noir served by Obama

I was very fortunate to come upon a bottle of 2004 Goldeneye Pinot Noir, the PN served by Obama at his inaugeration.

Unfortunately, I failed to ask some very basic questions about this wine:

Most obviously, should I let it age, or is it a wine that should be enjoyed relatively soon?

This was the kind of splurge I rarely ever shower on myself, but I was in a pressure situation and admit I gave in and got the wine.

Maybe I will regret it.

Would the best thing to do to just save the unopened bottle as a commemoration of that event?

1. Get a nice selection of cheeses and some hearty bread and enjoy it.

I'd recommend an extra-sharp cheddar, havari (with dill if they have it), gorgonzola, and drunken goat.

2. I would drink it relatively soon. In fact, if you don't get through it by next Tuesday you

should pack it up and send it to me for proper disposal... :)

I don't think pinots are the kind of wines that will benefit from extensive aging. A couple of years are fine and may help, but this one has already been in the bottle for almost 4 years (I'm guessing it would have been bottled in 2006) so I'd say it's ready. Enjoy!
