7. Actually a nice place.
Old political joke: The Governor has 3 towns in MA named after him: Peabody, Marblehead, and Athol (Endicott Peabody)

Home of L.S. Starret Co. "Worlds Greatest Toolmakers" I have 60+ y.o. Starret tools still accurate and in perfect order.

8. Check this clever Starrett tool out
http://www.starrett.com/download/325_p413_415.pdf
Locate the punch precisely, and mark the spot without putting down the tool.

15. Did you know there's a Navy base there?
Or, at least, very close to it.

Athol is near Lake Pend Oreile--which is the fifth deepest lake in the United States at 1150 feet. It is acoustically very similar to the ocean. They do sonar research there, and during World War II the Navy had a training base at Farragut.

17. Didn't know that.
I've only been over that way two or three times. I remember seeing the sign for Athol between Sandpoint and Coeur d'Alene.

20. I dunno about Mathols
Massholes largely reside to the east - just watch for drivers who seem bent on suicide.

I want to tell you, though - if you want to do some serious drinkin', you can find some like-minded companions in Athol.
