Do you like sardines?
I'm thinking of trying them. I don't want to eat tuna anymore due to the overfishing.

I read that they did.

I always imagined that they'd taste like anchovies.

7. They're not salty. They don't taste fishy.
They're good for you. Good source of omega-3, I think, and protein. And they're not fatty. But they may be an acquired taste, I'll admit.

They don't taste like tuna, salmon, or anchovies but have a taste all their own. It's a strong fish taste, nothing subtle about it, but they are good!

It's fishy as fishy can be. I don't bring 'em to work because the odor may be offensive to some who like seafood with, shall we say a more delicate flavor.

59. Not fishy like anchovies.
Anchovies for me taste so fishy that I'm distracted by their taste. I don't like anchovies on pizza, but I do like the flavor they impart to a good Caesar Salad. Sardines, on the other hand, have a far more pleasant taste that I wouldn't describe as fishy. Yes, they can be a bit strong, and because they're typically eaten bones and all, they can have a bit of bitterness to them, but overall, I find them rather nice. I'd suggest some packed in oil and spread on a nice multigrain cracker. They're usually so tender because of the cooking and canning process that they can actually be spread like firm, flaky butter. There are actually some specialty stores that sell very high end sardines and other canned (or bottled) fish. I saw on Anthony Bourdain's show a French factory that makes something around only 1200 bottles per year. I'd imagine they go for a pretty penny.

16. sardines
I used to pack cans of them and crackers when we went to the field in the Army. They made the tent smell great :) Emeril Green episode last night was for easily digestable foods and sardines happened to be one of them. Here's the recipies for the show - They looked really good and I'm going to have to track some down to give it a try.

17. I used to eat them all the time - I stopped doing fish 18 years ago.
They're best in mustard and on Ritz, saltines, or something like French bread. I've been vegetarian for 20 years. I still did fish for about two years but then it just stopped being "food". A can of tuna started to say "cat food" to me instead of "human food".

18. The really expensive ones are the best..eat them out of...
the tin, with a fancy little pickle fork along with a large glass of buttermilk
and some of those artisan croutons to dip into the olive oil those tender
tangy sardines come soaking in.
My mom used to find some good sardines in a spicy tomato sauce or
something. I liked them, also.

Nothing at all like tuna, but very tasty.
Good nutrition, too.

Some of the expensive smoked ones from Scandanavia are really superb on good crackers or crispbread with cheese and fruit, may be a little wine.....

Kudos to you for dropping the tuna, redqueen. Sushi has put blue fin tuna in a dire endangered state. :hi:

A great resource here from the Monterey Bay Aquarium on which fish are in danger and which are safe to eat.

They are relatively inexpensive. A tin is about all you want, esp packed in oil

Great source of Omega 3s and protein. I like the ones that are headless, skinless and packed in olive oil.

Crackers are great or good crusty bread are good. Sometimes I take them out and make an offbeat salad Nicoise.

edit: I like a little fresh lemon juice sprinkled on top.
